我所以恨恶生命；因为在日光之下所行的事我都以为烦恼，都是虚空，都是捕风。

於是我恨惡生命，因為在日光之下所做的事，對我都是悲苦。是的，全是虛空，全是捕風！

我遂惡生、因於日下經營、乃為煩惱、悉屬虛空、莫非捕風、

斯世所為、殷憂慼慼、莫非捕風捉影、故我不樂其生。

我厭惡生命、因我見日下所作之事、皆不善、皆屬於虛、皆如捕風、

So I hated life, because the work that is done under the sun was grievous to me. All of it is meaningless, a chasing after the wind.

So I hated life. That’s because the work done on this earth made me sad. None of it has any meaning. It’s like chasing the wind.

So I hated life, because what is done under the sun was grievous to me, for all is vanity and a striving after wind.

So I came to hate life because everything done here under the sun is so troubling. Everything is meaningless— like chasing the wind.

Therefore, I hated life because the work that was done under the sun was distressing to me. For everything is futile and a pursuit of the wind.

So I hated life, for the work which had been done under the sun was unhappy to me; because everything is futility and striving after wind.

Therefore I hated life because the work that was done under the sun was distressing to me, for all is vanity and grasping for the wind.

后来，我察看我手所经营的一切事和我劳碌所成的功。谁知都是虚空，都是捕风；在日光之下毫无益处。

耶和华啊，现在求你取我的命吧！因为我死了比活着还好。”

日头出来的时候，神安排炎热的东风，日头曝晒约拿的头，使他发昏，他就为自己求死，说：“我死了比活着还好！”

甚至我宁肯噎死，宁肯死亡，胜似留我这一身的骨头。我厌弃性命，不愿永活。你任凭我吧，因我的日子都是虚空。

我见日光之下所做的一切事，都是虚空，都是捕风。

惟愿你把我藏在阴间，存于隐密处，等你的忿怒过去；愿你为我定了日期，记念我。

因此，我赞叹那早已死的死人，胜过那还活着的活人。

眼睛所看的比心里妄想的倒好。这也是虚空，也是捕风。

你为何使我看见罪孽？你为何看着奸恶而不理呢？毁灭和强暴在我面前，又起了争端和相斗的事。

人在日光之下劳碌累心，在他一切的劳碌上得着什么呢？

我正在两难之间，情愿离世与基督同在，因为这是好得无比的。然而，我在肉身活着，为你们更是要紧的。我既然这样深信，就知道仍要住在世间，且与你们众人同住，使你们在所信的道上又长进又喜乐，

你这样待我，我若在你眼前蒙恩，求你立时将我杀了，不叫我见自己的苦情。”

愿我生的那日受咒诅；愿我母亲产我的那日不蒙福！给我父亲报信说“你得了儿子”，使我父亲甚欢喜的，愿那人受咒诅。愿那人像耶和华所倾覆而不后悔的城邑；愿他早晨听见哀声，晌午听见呐喊；因他在我未出胎的时候不杀我，使我母亲成了我的坟墓，胎就时常重大。我为何出胎见劳碌愁苦，使我的年日因羞愧消灭呢？

于是灵将我举起，带我而去。我心中甚苦，灵性忿激，并且耶和华的灵在我身上大有能力。

我又见日光之下，在审判之处有奸恶，在公义之处也有奸恶。

求你想念我的时候是何等的短少；你创造世人，要使他们归何等的虚空呢？

“受患难的人为何有光赐给他呢？心中愁苦的人为何有生命赐给他呢？他们切望死，却不得死；求死，胜于求隐藏的珍宝。他们寻见坟墓就快乐，极其欢喜。

自己在旷野走了一日的路程，来到一棵罗腾树下，就坐在那里求死，说：“耶和华啊，罢了！求你取我的性命，因为我不胜于我的列祖。”
