我遂惡生、因於日下經營、乃為煩惱、悉屬虛空、莫非捕風、

斯世所為、殷憂慼慼、莫非捕風捉影、故我不樂其生。

我厭惡生命、因我見日下所作之事、皆不善、皆屬於虛、皆如捕風、

So I hated life, because the work that is done under the sun was grievous to me. All of it is meaningless, a chasing after the wind.

So I hated life. That’s because the work done on this earth made me sad. None of it has any meaning. It’s like chasing the wind.

So I hated life, because what is done under the sun was grievous to me, for all is vanity and a striving after wind.

So I came to hate life because everything done here under the sun is so troubling. Everything is meaningless— like chasing the wind.

Therefore, I hated life because the work that was done under the sun was distressing to me. For everything is futile and a pursuit of the wind.

So I hated life, for the work which had been done under the sun was unhappy to me; because everything is futility and striving after wind.

但當我回顧我手所做的一切事，以及我勞苦所做的工，看哪，全是虛空，全是捕風！在日光之下毫無益處。

耶和華啊，現在就求你取走我的性命吧！因為我死了比活著更好。」

太陽升起的時候，神又指派了炎熱的東風；太陽直射在約拿的頭上，他就發昏。於是他為自己求死，說：「我死了比活著更好。」

我見過在日光之下所做的一切事，看哪，全是虛空，全是捕風！

所以我感嘆，那些早已死去的死人，勝過那些還活著的活人；

眼睛所見的好過心裡妄想。這也是虛空，也是捕風！

人一切的勞苦和他心裡的追求，就是他在日光之下的勞碌所為，到底能為自己成就什麼呢？

我正處在兩難之間：我渴望離世與基督在一起，因為這是好得無比的；可是為了你們的緣故，我更需要留在世上。既然我深信這一點，就知道我會活下去，並且將繼續和你們大家在一起，好使你們在信仰上有長進、有喜樂。

我還看到在日光之下，在審判的地方有奸惡，在公義的地方也有奸惡。

求你記念我的一生是多麼短暫，你創造的所有世人是多麼虛妄！
