因此我恨恶生命，因为在日光之下所发生的事，都使我厌烦。一切都是虚空，都是捕风。

故此我恨惡生命，因為在日光之下所發生過的事都使我憂苦；因為都是虛空，都是捕風。

於是我恨惡生命，因為在日光之下所做的事，對我都是悲苦。是的，全是虛空，全是捕風！

我遂惡生、因於日下經營、乃為煩惱、悉屬虛空、莫非捕風、

斯世所為、殷憂慼慼、莫非捕風捉影、故我不樂其生。

我厭惡生命、因我見日下所作之事、皆不善、皆屬於虛、皆如捕風、

So I hated life, because the work that is done under the sun was grievous to me. All of it is meaningless, a chasing after the wind.

So I hated life. That’s because the work done on this earth made me sad. None of it has any meaning. It’s like chasing the wind.

So I hated life, because what is done under the sun was grievous to me, for all is vanity and a striving after wind.

So I came to hate life because everything done here under the sun is so troubling. Everything is meaningless— like chasing the wind.

Therefore, I hated life because the work that was done under the sun was distressing to me. For everything is futile and a pursuit of the wind.

So I hated life, for the work which had been done under the sun was unhappy to me; because everything is futility and striving after wind.

然后，我省察我手所作的一切，和我劳碌所成就的，想不到一切都是虚空，都是捕风，在日光之下毫无益处。

耶和华啊！现在求你取去我的性命吧，因为我死了比活着还好。”

日出的时候，神又安排炎热的东风。烈日晒在约拿的头上，以致发昏，他就为自己求死，说：“我死了比活着还好。”

以致我宁可窒息而死，也不肯保留我这一身的骨头。我厌恶自己，不愿永远活下去。任凭我吧，因为我的日子都是空虚的。

我看过日光之下所发生的一切事，不料，一切都是虚空，都是捕风。

但愿你把我藏在阴间，把我隐藏，直到你的怒气过去；愿你为我定一个期限，好记念我。

我赞叹那已死的人，胜过那还活着的人。

眼睛看见的，胜过心中想望的。这也是虚空，也是捕风。

你为什么使我看见恶行？有奸恶的事，你为什么见而不理？毁灭和强暴在我面前，纷争和相斗常常发生。

人的一切劳碌和操心，就是他在日光之下所劳碌的，对自己有什么益处呢？

我处于两难之间，情愿离世与基督同在，因为那是好得无比的。可是为了你们，我更需要活在世上。我既然这样深信，就知道还要活下去，并且要继续和你们大家在一起，使你们在信心上有长进，有喜乐，

你既然这样待我，如果我在你面前蒙恩，求你把我杀了，免得我看见自己的苦楚。”

愿我生的那一天受咒诅！愿我母亲生我的那一天不蒙祝福！那向我父亲报喜信：“你得了一个男孩”，叫我父亲十分高兴的，愿那人受咒诅！愿那人像耶和华所倾覆而不顾惜的城市，愿他早晨听见哀号，午间听见战争的吶喊。因为他没有使我死于母腹，好使我的母亲成了我的坟墓，我永远留在母腹中。我为什么要出母胎，经历劳苦和忧伤，并且我的年日都消逝在羞辱之中呢？

灵使我升起，把我提去。那时我心灵忿激、愁苦。耶和华的手强而有力临到我身上。

我在日光之下又看见：审判的地方有奸恶，维护公义的地方也有奸恶。

求你记念我的一生多么短暂，你创造的世人是多么虚幻呢！

为什么有光明赐给劳碌的人，有生命赐给苦命的人呢？他们想死却死不了，找死胜于找宝藏；他们找到坟墓就高兴，非常欢喜快乐。

他自己却在旷野走了一天的路，来到一棵罗腾树下，就坐在那里求死，说：“耶和华啊，现在已经够了，求你取我的性命吧，因为我并不比我的列祖好。”
