I said in my heart,“ Come now, I will test you with pleasure; enjoy yourself.” But behold, this also was vanity.

我心里说：“来吧，我以喜乐试试你，你好享福！”谁知，这也是虚空。

我自己心里说：“来吧，我用享乐试试你，让你看看有什么好处。”想不到，这也是虚空。

我对自己说：“来吧，我要用享乐试验你，让你看看有什么好处！”看哪，这也是虚空！

我心裏說：「來吧，我以喜樂試試你，你好享福！」誰知，這也是虛空。

我心裏說：「來吧，讓我用喜樂試試你，使你享福！」看哪，這也是虛空。

我心自謂、其來、我以逸樂試爾、可享福祉、斯亦虛空、

我竊自維、試耽宴樂、試樂逸遊、明知歸於無有。

我自思曰、原文作我心中曰不如試宴樂、享安逸、乃知此亦屬於虛、

I said to myself,“ Come now, I will test you with pleasure to find out what is good.” But that also proved to be meaningless.

I said to myself,“ Come on. I’ll try out pleasure. I want to find out if it is good.” But it also proved to be meaningless.

I said to myself,“ Come on, let’s try pleasure. Let’s look for the‘ good things’ in life.” But I found that this, too, was meaningless.

I said to myself,“ Go ahead, I will test you with pleasure; enjoy what is good.” But it turned out to be futile.

I said to myself,“ Come now, I will test you with pleasure. So enjoy yourself.” And behold, it too was futility.

I said in my heart,“ Come now, I will test you with mirth; therefore enjoy pleasure”; but surely, this also was vanity.

I said in my heart, Come now, I will prove thee with mirth; therefore enjoy pleasure: and, behold, this also was vanity.

I said to myself,“ Go ahead, I will test you with pleasure; enjoy what is good.” But it turned out to be futile.

I said in mine heart, Go to now, I will prove thee with mirth, therefore enjoy pleasure: and, behold, this also[ is] vanity.

I thought to myself,“ Come now, I will try self-indulgent pleasure to see if it is worthwhile.” But I found that it also is futile.

I said in my heart,“ Come now, I will test you with mirth: therefore enjoy pleasure;” and behold, this also was vanity.

And I will say to my soul,“ Soul, you have ample goods laid up for many years; relax, eat, drink, be merry.”’

And I commend joy, for man has nothing better under the sun but to eat and drink and be joyful, for this will go with him in his toil through the days of his life that God has given him under the sun.

I said in my heart, God will judge the righteous and the wicked, for there is a time for every matter and for every work.I said in my heart with regard to the children of man that God is testing them that they may see that they themselves are but beasts.

And the king of Syria said,“ Go now, and I will send a letter to the king of Israel.” So he went, taking with him ten talents of silver, six thousand shekels of gold, and ten changes of clothing.

And they said to one another,“ Come, let us make bricks, and burn them thoroughly.” And they had brick for stone, and bitumen for mortar.Then they said,“ Come, let us build ourselves a city and a tower with its top in the heavens, and let us make a name for ourselves, lest we be dispersed over the face of the whole earth.”

Rejoice, O young man, in your youth, and let your heart cheer you in the days of your youth. Walk in the ways of your heart and the sight of your eyes. But know that for all these things God will bring you into judgment.

You have lived on the earth in luxury and in self-indulgence. You have fattened your hearts in a day of slaughter.

For we ourselves were once foolish, disobedient, led astray, slaves to various passions and pleasures, passing our days in malice and envy, hated by others and hating one another.

The Lord God has opened my ear, and I was not rebellious; I turned not backward.

The fool says in his heart,“ There is no God.” They are corrupt, they do abominable deeds; there is none who does good.

You have said,“ Seek my face.” My heart says to you,“ Your face, Lord, do I seek.”

He says in his heart,“ I shall not be moved; throughout all generations I shall not meet adversity.”

And now I will tell you what I will do to my vineyard. I will remove its hedge, and it shall be devoured; I will break down its wall, and it shall be trampled down.

As for me, I said in my prosperity,“ I shall never be moved.”By your favor, O Lord, you made my mountain stand strong; you hid your face; I was dismayed.

Come, let us go down and there confuse their language, so that they may not understand one another’s speech.”

Behold, all you who kindle a fire, who equip yourselves with burning torches! Walk by the light of your fire, and by the torches that you have kindled! This you have from my hand: you shall lie down in torment.

Come now, you who say,“ Today or tomorrow we will go into such and such a town and spend a year there and trade and make a profit”—

The heart of the wise is in the house of mourning, but the heart of fools is in the house of mirth.

Come now, you rich, weep and howl for the miseries that are coming upon you.
