It is good for a man to bear the yoke while he is still young.

Indeed, if a man lives many years, let him rejoice in them all, and let him remember the days of darkness, since they will be many. All that comes is futile.

Teach a youth about the way he should go; even when he is old he will not depart from it.

Jesus, however, invited them:“ Let the little children come to Me, and don’t stop them, because the kingdom of God belongs to such as these.

God, You have taught me from my youth, and I still proclaim Your wonderful works.Even when I am old and gray, God, do not abandon me. Then I will proclaim Your power to another generation, Your strength to all who are to come.

Our lives last seventy years or, if we are strong, eighty years. Even the best of them are struggle and sorrow; indeed, they pass quickly and we fly away.

I’m now 80 years old. Can I discern what is pleasant and what is not? Can your servant taste what he eats or drinks? Can I still hear the voice of male and female singers? Why should your servant be an added burden to my lord the king?

The Lord was with Joseph, and he became a successful man, serving in the household of his Egyptian master.

By contrast, the boy Samuel grew in stature and in favor with the Lord and with men.

The boy Samuel served in the Lord’s presence and wore a linen ephod.

The warden did not bother with anything under Joseph’s authority, because the Lord was with him, and the Lord made everything that he did successful.

The boy grew up and became strong, filled with wisdom, and God’s grace was on Him.Every year His parents traveled to Jerusalem for the Passover Festival.When He was 12 years old, they went up according to the custom of the festival.After those days were over, as they were returning, the boy Jesus stayed behind in Jerusalem, but His parents did not know it.Assuming He was in the traveling party, they went a day’s journey. Then they began looking for Him among their relatives and friends.When they did not find Him, they returned to Jerusalem to search for Him.After three days, they found Him in the temple complex sitting among the teachers, listening to them and asking them questions.And all those who heard Him were astounded at His understanding and His answers.When His parents saw Him, they were astonished, and His mother said to Him,“ Son, why have You treated us like this? Your father and I have been anxiously searching for You.”“ Why were you searching for Me?” He asked them.“ Didn’t you know that I had to be in My Father’s house?”But they did not understand what He said to them.Then He went down with them and came to Nazareth and was obedient to them. His mother kept all these things in her heart.And Jesus increased in wisdom and stature, and in favor with God and with people.

I now give the boy to the Lord. For as long as he lives, he is given to the Lord.” Then he bowed in worship to the Lord there.

He did what was right in the Lord’s sight and walked in the ways of his ancestor David; he did not turn aside to the right or the left.In the eighth year of his reign, while he was still a youth, Josiah began to seek the God of his ancestor David, and in the twelfth year he began to cleanse Judah and Jerusalem of the high places, the Asherah poles, the carved images, and the cast images.

God gave these four young men knowledge and understanding in every kind of literature and wisdom. Daniel also understood visions and dreams of every kind.

What use to me was the strength of their hands? Their vigor had left them.

Fathers, don’t stir up anger in your children, but bring them up in the training and instruction of the Lord.

Daniel determined that he would not defile himself with the king’s food or with the wine he drank. So he asked permission from the chief official not to defile himself.God had granted Daniel favor and compassion from the chief official,

And Solomon replied,“ You have shown great and faithful love to Your servant, my father David, because he walked before You in faithfulness, righteousness, and integrity. You have continued this great and faithful love for him by giving him a son to sit on his throne, as it is today.“ Lord my God, You have now made Your servant king in my father David’s place. Yet I am just a youth with no experience in leadership.Your servant is among Your people You have chosen, a people too numerous to be numbered or counted.So give Your servant an obedient heart to judge Your people and to discern between good and evil. For who is able to judge this great people of Yours?”Now it pleased the Lord that Solomon had requested this.So God said to him,“ Because you have requested this and did not ask for long life or riches for yourself, or the death of your enemies, but you asked discernment for yourself to understand justice,I will therefore do what you have asked. I will give you a wise and understanding heart, so that there has never been anyone like you before and never will be again.

For he will be great in the sight of the Lord and will never drink wine or beer. He will be filled with the Holy Spirit while still in his mother’s womb.

Yes, Yahweh, we wait for You in the path of Your judgments. Our desire is for Your name and renown.

But when I leave you, the Spirit of the Lord may carry you off to some place I don’t know. Then when I go report to Ahab and he doesn’t find you, he will kill me. But I, your servant, have feared the Lord from my youth.

Foreigners consume his strength, but he does not notice. Even his hair is streaked with gray, but he does not notice.
