All things are tiresome. They are more tiresome than anyone can say. But our eyes never see enough of anything. Our ears never hear enough.

All things are full of weariness; a man cannot utter it; the eye is not satisfied with seeing, nor the ear filled with hearing.

‘ Never again will they hunger; never again will they thirst. The sun will not beat down on them,’ nor any scorching heat.For the Lamb at the center of the throne will be their shepherd;‘ he will lead them to springs of living water.’‘ And God will wipe away every tear from their eyes.’”

Again I looked and saw all the oppression that was taking place under the sun: I saw the tears of the oppressed— and they have no comforter; power was on the side of their oppressors— and they have no comforter.And I declared that the dead, who had already died, are happier than the living, who are still alive.But better than both is the one who has never been born, who has not seen the evil that is done under the sun.And I saw that all toil and all achievement spring from one person’s envy of another. This too is meaningless, a chasing after the wind.

Whoever loves money never has enough; whoever loves wealth is never satisfied with their income. This too is meaningless.As goods increase, so do those who consume them. And what benefit are they to the owners except to feast their eyes on them?

To the person who pleases him, God gives wisdom, knowledge and happiness, but to the sinner he gives the task of gathering and storing up wealth to hand it over to the one who pleases God. This too is meaningless, a chasing after the wind.

Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they will be filled.

We know that the whole creation has been groaning as in the pains of childbirth right up to the present time.Not only so, but we ourselves, who have the firstfruits of the Spirit, groan inwardly as we wait eagerly for our adoption to sonship, the redemption of our bodies.

Yet when I surveyed all that my hands had done and what I had toiled to achieve, everything was meaningless, a chasing after the wind; nothing was gained under the sun.

Whatever exists is far off and most profound— who can discover it?So I turned my mind to understand, to investigate and to search out wisdom and the scheme of things and to understand the stupidity of wickedness and the madness of folly.I find more bitter than death the woman who is a snare, whose heart is a trap and whose hands are chains. The man who pleases God will escape her, but the sinner she will ensnare.

“ The leech has two daughters.‘ Give! Give!’ they cry.“ There are three things that are never satisfied, four that never say,‘ Enough!’:the grave, the barren womb, land, which is never satisfied with water, and fire, which never says,‘ Enough!’

I will be fully satisfied as with the richest of foods; with singing lips my mouth will praise you.
