不如專心考辨、何為智慧、何為癡頑、何為愚蒙、乃知此亦如捕風、

Then I applied myself to the understanding of wisdom, and also of madness and folly, but I learned that this, too, is a chasing after the wind.

Then I used my mind to understand what it really means to be wise. And I wanted to know what foolish pleasure is all about. But I found out that it’s also like chasing the wind.

And I applied my heart to know wisdom and to know madness and folly. I perceived that this also is but a striving after wind.

So I set out to learn everything from wisdom to madness and folly. But I learned firsthand that pursuing all this is like chasing the wind.

And I applied my mind to know wisdom and to know insanity and foolishness; I realized that this also is striving after wind.

And I set my heart to know wisdom and to know madness and folly. I perceived that this also is grasping for the wind.

So I decided to discern the benefit of wisdom and knowledge over foolish behavior and ideas; however, I concluded that even this endeavor is like trying to chase the wind!

I explored with my mind the pull of wine on my body— my mind still guiding me with wisdom— and how to grasp folly, until I could see what is good for people to do under heaven during the few days of their lives.

but test all things. Hold on to what is good.

All that my eyes desired, I did not deny them. I did not refuse myself any pleasure, for I took pleasure in all my struggles. This was my reward for all my struggles.When I considered all that I had accomplished and what I had labored to achieve, I found everything to be futile and a pursuit of the wind. There was nothing to be gained under the sun.Then I turned to consider wisdom, madness, and folly, for what will the king’s successor be like? He will do what has already been done.

I applied my mind to examine and explore through wisdom all that is done under heaven. God has given people this miserable task to keep them occupied.I have seen all the things that are done under the sun and have found everything to be futile, a pursuit of the wind.

I have tested all this by wisdom. I resolved,“ I will be wise,” but it was beyond me.What exists is beyond reach and very deep. Who can discover it?I turned my thoughts to know, explore, and examine wisdom and an explanation for things, and to know that wickedness is stupidity and folly is madness.
