When the LORD your God drives them out before you, do not say to yourself,‘ The LORD brought me in to take possession of this land because of my righteousness.’ Instead, the LORD will drive out these nations before you because of their wickedness.

既驅之後、爾勿意謂我儕有義、故耶和華使得斯土、實因斯民行惡、故耶和華驅於爾前。

主爾之天主、既逐之於爾前、爾勿意謂主導我得斯地乃因我善、實因斯民之惡、主逐之於爾前、

After the Lord your God has driven them out before you, do not say to yourself,“ The Lord has brought me here to take possession of this land because of my righteousness.” No, it is on account of the wickedness of these nations that the Lord is going to drive them out before you.

The Lord your God will drive them out to make room for you. When he does, don’t say to yourself,“ The Lord has done it because I am godly. That’s why he brought me here to take over this land.” That isn’t true. The Lord is going to drive out those nations to make room for you because they are very evil.

“ Do not say in your heart, after the Lord your God has thrust them out before you,‘ It is because of my righteousness that the Lord has brought me in to possess this land,’ whereas it is because of the wickedness of these nations that the Lord is driving them out before you.

“ After the Lord your God has done this for you, don’t say in your hearts,‘ The Lord has given us this land because we are such good people!’ No, it is because of the wickedness of the other nations that he is pushing them out of your way.

“ Do not say in your heart when the Lord your God has driven them away from you,‘ Because of my righteousness the Lord has brought me in to take possession of this land.’ Rather, it is because of the wickedness of these nations that the Lord is dispossessing them before you.

“ Do not think in your heart, after the Lord your God has cast them out before you, saying,‘ Because of my righteousness the Lord has brought me in to possess this land’; but it is because of the wickedness of these nations that the Lord is driving them out from before you.

Speak not thou in thy heart, after that Jehovah thy God hath thrust them out from before thee, saying, For my righteousness Jehovah hath brought me in to possess this land; whereas for the wickedness of these nations Jehovah doth drive them out from before thee.

When the Lord your God drives them out before you, do not say to yourself,‘ The Lord brought me in to take possession of this land because of my righteousness.’ Instead, the Lord will drive out these nations before you because of their wickedness.

Speak not thou in thine heart, after that the LORD thy God hath cast them out from before thee, saying, For my righteousness the LORD hath brought me in to possess this land: but for the wickedness of these nations the LORD doth drive them out from before thee.

Do not think to yourself after the LORD your God has driven them out before you,“ Because of my own righteousness the LORD has brought me here to possess this land.” It is because of the wickedness of these nations that the Lord is driving them out ahead of you.

Don’t say in your heart, after Yahweh your God has thrust them out from before you,“ For my righteousness Yahweh has brought me in to possess this land;” because Yahweh drives them out before you because of the wickedness of these nations.

You may say to yourself,‘ My power and my own ability have gained this wealth for me,’

“ When you enter the land the LORD your God is giving you, do not imitate the detestable customs of those nations.No one among you is to sacrifice his son or daughter in the fire, practice divination, tell fortunes, interpret omens, practice sorcery,cast spells, consult a medium or a spiritist, or inquire of the dead.Everyone who does these acts is detestable to the LORD, and the LORD your God is driving out the nations before you because of these detestable acts.You must be blameless before the LORD your God.Though these nations you are about to drive out listen to fortune-tellers and diviners, the LORD your God has not permitted you to do this.

“ Do not defile yourselves by any of these practices, for the nations I am driving out before you have defiled themselves by all these things.The land has become defiled, so I am punishing it for its iniquity, and the land will vomit out its inhabitants.But you are to keep my statutes and ordinances. You must not commit any of these detestable acts— not the native or the alien who resides among you.For the people who were in the land prior to you have committed all these detestable acts, and the land has become defiled.If you defile the land, it will vomit you out as it has vomited out the nations that were before you.Any person who does any of these detestable practices is to be cut off from his people.You must keep my instruction to not do any of the detestable customs that were practiced before you, so that you do not defile yourselves by them; I am the LORD your God.”

“ The LORD had his heart set on you and chose you, not because you were more numerous than all peoples, for you were the fewest of all peoples.But because the LORD loved you and kept the oath he swore to your ancestors, he brought you out with a strong hand and redeemed you from the place of slavery, from the power of Pharaoh king of Egypt.

You must not do the same to the LORD your God, because they practice every detestable act, which the LORD hates, for their gods. They even burn their sons and daughters in the fire to their gods.

You are not going to take possession of their land because of your righteousness or your integrity. Instead, the LORD your God will drive out these nations before you because of their wickedness, in order to fulfill the promise he swore to your ancestors Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob.

For I am not conscious of anything against myself, but I am not justified by this. It is the Lord who judges me.

Now if by grace, then it is not by works; otherwise grace ceases to be grace.

For we too were once foolish, disobedient, deceived, enslaved by various passions and pleasures, living in malice and envy, hateful, detesting one another.But when the kindness of God our Savior and his love for mankind appeared,he saved us— not by works of righteousness that we had done, but according to his mercy— through the washing of regeneration and renewal by the Holy Spirit.

He has saved us and called us with a holy calling, not according to our works, but according to his own purpose and grace, which was given to us in Christ Jesus before time began.

It is not for your sake that I will act— this is the declaration of the Lord GOD— let this be known to you. Be ashamed and humiliated because of your ways, house of Israel!

In the fourth generation they will return here, for the iniquity of the Amorites has not yet reached its full measure.”

But God, who is rich in mercy, because of his great love that he had for us,made us alive with Christ even though we were dead in trespasses. You are saved by grace!

For who makes you so superior? What do you have that you didn’t receive? If, in fact, you did receive it, why do you boast as if you hadn’t received it?

“ Therefore, say to the house of Israel,‘ This is what the Lord GOD says: It is not for your sake that I will act, house of Israel, but for my holy name, which you profaned among the nations where you went.
