So I turned and went down from the mountain while it was ablaze with fire. And the two tablets of the covenant were in my hands.

So I turned and went down the mountain. It was blazing with fire. I was carrying the two tablets of the covenant law.

“ So while the mountain was blazing with fire I turned and came down, holding in my hands the two stone tablets inscribed with the terms of the covenant.

“ So I turned and came down from the mountain while the mountain was burning with fire, and the two tablets of the covenant were in my two hands.

西奈山全山冒煙，因為耶和華在火中降臨山上。山的煙霧上騰，彷彿燒窰，整座山劇烈震動。

山被火焰燒着，你們聽見從黑暗中發出的聲音，那時，你們各支派的領袖和長老都挨近我。

那時，你們近前來，站在山下；山上有火燃燒，直沖天頂，並有黑暗、密雲、幽暗。

你們不是來到那可觸摸的山，那裏有火焰、密雲、黑暗、暴風、

摩西向天伸杖，耶和華就打雷下雹，有火降到地上；耶和華下雹在埃及地上。

於是耶和華改變心意，不把所說的災禍降給他的百姓。摩西轉身下山，手裏拿着兩塊法版。這版的兩面都寫着字，正面背面都有字。版是神的工作，字是神寫的字，刻在版上。約書亞一聽見百姓呼喊的聲音，就對摩西說：「在營裏有戰爭的聲音。」摩西說：「這不是打勝仗的聲音，也不是打敗仗的聲音，我聽見的是歌唱的聲音。」摩西走近營前，看見牛犢，又看見人在跳舞，就發烈怒，把兩塊版從手中扔到山下摔碎了。他將他們所鑄的牛犢用火焚燒，磨得粉碎，撒在水面上，叫以色列人喝。摩西對亞倫說：「這百姓向你做了甚麼呢？你竟使他們陷入大罪中！」亞倫說：「求我主不要發烈怒。你知道這百姓，他們是向惡的。他們對我說：『你為我們造神明，在我們前面引路，因為領我們出埃及地的那個摩西，我們不知道他遭遇了甚麼事。』我對他們說：『凡有金環的可以摘下來』，他們就給了我。我把金環扔在火中，這牛犢就出來了。」摩西見百姓放肆，因亞倫縱容他們，使這事成了敵人的笑柄，就站在營門前，說：「凡屬耶和華的人，都到我這裏來！」於是利未人都聚集到他那裏。他對他們說：「耶和華－以色列的神這樣說：『你們各人把刀佩在腰間，從這門到那門，來回走遍全營，各人要殺自己的弟兄、鄰舍和親人。』」利未人遵照摩西的話做了。那一天百姓中倒下的約有三千人。摩西說：「今天你們要奉獻自己來事奉耶和華，因為各人犧牲自己的兒子和弟兄，使耶和華今天賜福給你們。」第二天，摩西對百姓說：「你們犯了大罪。我如今要上耶和華那裏去，或許可以為你們贖罪。」摩西回到耶和華那裏，說：「唉！這百姓犯了大罪，為自己造了金的神明。現在，求你赦免他們的罪；不然，就把我從你所寫的冊上除名。」耶和華對摩西說：「誰得罪我，我就把他從我的冊上除去。現在你去，領這百姓往我所告訴你的地方去，看哪，我的使者必在你的前面引路。到了該懲罰的時候，我必懲罰他們的罪。」耶和華降災與百姓，因為他們和亞倫一起造了牛犢。
