Hear, Israel: You are now about to cross the Jordan to go in and dispossess nations greater and stronger than you, with large cities that have walls up to the sky.

Israel, listen to me. You are now about to go across the Jordan River. You will take over the land of the nations that live there. Those nations are greater and stronger than you are. Their large cities have walls that reach up to the sky.

“ Hear, O Israel: you are to cross over the Jordan today, to go in to dispossess nations greater and mightier than you, cities great and fortified up to heaven,

“ Listen, O Israel! Today you are about to cross the Jordan River to take over the land belonging to nations much greater and more powerful than you. They live in cities with walls that reach to the sky!

为要把比你大比你强的民族，从你面前赶走，然后领你进去，把他们的地赐给你作产业，像今日一样。

耶和华就必从你们面前把这些国民都赶出去，你们就必占领比你们大比你们强的国民的地。

现在你们快要过约旦河，进去得耶和华你们的神要赐给你们为业之地；你们取得了那地，就住在那里。

“你们要走遍营中，吩咐人民说：‘你们要预备粮食，因为三天之内，你们要过这约旦河，进去得耶和华你们的神要赐给你们作产业的地。’”

“耶和华你的神领你进入你要去得为业的地，从你面前赶走许多民族，就是赫人、革迦撒人、亚摩利人、迦南人、比利洗人、希未人、耶布斯人，共七个比你又大又强的民族。

正月初十，人民从约旦河上来以后，就在吉甲，在耶利哥的东边安营。

“那时，我吩咐你们：‘耶和华你们的神，已经把这地赐给你们作产业了；你们所有的战士，都要预备好，在你们的兄弟以色列人面前过河去。

水就停住了，那从上游流下来的水立起成垒，在很远的地方，就是在撒拉但旁边的亚当城那里停住；那往下流入亚拉巴海，就是盐海的水完全被截断；于是人民就在耶利哥的对面过了河。

约书亚又吩咐祭司说：“你们要抬起约柜，在人民前面过河去。”于是他们抬起约柜，走在人民的前面。

只是住在那地的人强壮，城又坚固又十分高大，并且我们在那里也看见了亚衲族人的后裔。有亚玛力人住在南地；赫人、耶布斯人、亚摩利人住在山地；迦南人住在海边和约旦河沿岸。”迦勒在摩西面前使众人镇静，说：“我们立刻上去，占领那地吧！因为我们必能得胜。”但是，那些与他同去的人却说：“我们不能上去攻击那民，因为他们比我们强。”那些探子就他们窥探之地向以色列人报恶信，说：“我们经过要窥探的地方，是个吞吃居民的地方；我们在那里看见的人，个个都高大。在那里我们看见了巨人，就是亚衲人的子孙，是巨人的后裔；我们看自己好像是蚱蜢，他们看我们也是这样。”

人民离开帐棚出发，要过约旦河的时候，抬约柜的祭司在人民的前面。

他们上到南地，到了希伯仑，在那里有亚衲族人的后裔亚希幔、示筛、挞买。原来希伯仑城比埃及的琐安城早建七年。

将来你们过约旦河，到了耶和华你的神赐给你的土地的那一天，你要立起几块大石头，墁上石灰。

约书亚对他们说：“你们走到约旦河中间，在耶和华你们的神的约柜前面，按着以色列十二支派的数目，每人拿起一块石头，扛在自己的肩上；
