He gave you manna to eat in the wilderness, something your ancestors had never known, to humble and test you so that in the end it might go well with you.

He gave you manna to eat in the desert. Your people had never even known anything about manna before. The Lord took your pride away. He tested you. He did it so that things would go well with you in the end.

以色列人看见，不知道是什么，就彼此对问说：“这是什么呢？”摩西对他们说：“这就是耶和华给你们吃的食物。

他苦炼你，任你饥饿，将你和你列祖所不认识的吗哪赐给你吃，使你知道，人活着不是单靠食物，乃是靠耶和华口里所出的一切话。

“耶和华以色列的神如此说：被掳去的犹大人，就是我打发离开这地到迦勒底人之地去的，我必看顾他们如这好无花果，使他们得好处。我要眷顾他们，使他们得好处，领他们归回这地。我也要建立他们，必不拆毁；栽植他们，并不拔出。

我们这至暂至轻的苦楚，要为我们成就极重无比、永远的荣耀。

生身的父都是暂随己意管教我们；惟有万灵的父管教我们，是要我们得益处，使我们在他的圣洁上有份。凡管教的事，当时不觉得快乐，反觉得愁苦；后来却为那经练过的人结出平安的果子，就是义。

忍受试探的人是有福的，因为他经过试验以后，必得生命的冠冕；这是主应许给那些爱他之人的。

人仰望耶和华，静默等候他的救恩，这原是好的。人在幼年负轭，这原是好的。他当独坐无言，因为这是耶和华加在他身上的。他当口贴尘埃，或者有指望。他当由人打他的腮颊，要满受凌辱。因为主必不永远丢弃人。主虽使人忧愁，还要照他诸般的慈爱发怜悯。因他并不甘心使人受苦，使人忧愁。

我们晓得万事都互相效力，叫爱神的人得益处，就是按他旨意被召的人。

叫你们的信心既被试验，就比那被火试验仍然能坏的金子更显宝贵，可以在耶稣基督显现的时候得着称赞、荣耀、尊贵。
