He gave you manna to eat in the wilderness, something your ancestors had never known, to humble and test you so that in the end it might go well with you.

He gave you manna to eat in the desert. Your people had never even known anything about manna before. The Lord took your pride away. He tested you. He did it so that things would go well with you in the end.

“耶和華以色列的神這樣說：‘被擄去的猶大人，就是我打發離開這地方到迦勒底人之地去的，我必看他們如同這些好的無花果一樣，眷顧他們。我必關注他們，眷顧他們，領他們歸回這地。我必建立他們，必不拆毀；我必栽植他們，必不拔除。

因為我們短暫輕微的患難，是要為我們成就極大無比、永遠的榮耀。

肉身的父親照著自己的意思管教我們，只有短暫的日子；唯有神管教我們，是為著我們的好處，使我們在他的聖潔上有分。但是一切管教，在當時似乎不覺得快樂，反覺得痛苦；後來卻為那些經過這種操練的人，結出平安的果子來，就是義。

能忍受試煉的人，是有福的；因為他經過考驗之後，必得著生命的冠冕，這冠冕是主應許給愛他的人的。

安靜等候耶和華的救恩，是多麼的美好！人在幼年時就負軛，是多麼的美好！他要無言獨坐，因為這是耶和華加在他身上的。他要把自己的口埋於塵土中，或者還有盼望。他要讓人打他的臉頰，要飽受凌辱。主必不會永遠丟棄人。他雖然使人憂愁，卻必照著他豐盛的慈愛施憐憫。因為他心裡本不是要人受困苦，或是要世人愁苦。

我們知道，為了愛神的人，就是按他旨意蒙召的人的益處，萬事都一同效力。

是要叫你們的信心經過試驗，就比那被火煉過，仍會朽壞的金子更寶貴，可以在耶穌基督顯現的時候，得著稱讚、榮耀和尊貴。
