這正是你們在何烈山聚會時向你們的上帝耶和華所求的，當時你們說，『不要讓我們再聽見我們上帝耶和華的聲音，也不要讓我們再看見這烈火，免得我們死亡。』

這最終帶來死亡、刻在石版上的律法條文的事工尚且有榮耀，甚至使摩西的臉上發出榮光，儘管很快就消逝了，以色列人仍然無法定睛看他，那麼聖靈的事工豈不更有榮耀嗎？那定人罪的事工尚且有榮耀，這使人被稱為義人的事工豈不更有榮耀嗎？

因為我們的上帝是烈火。

這樣看來，上帝的律法和上帝的應許是否互相矛盾呢？當然不是！如果賜下的律法能帶給人生命，人就可以靠律法成為義人了。但聖經說所有的人都在罪的權勢下，爲要使那些相信的人因爲相信耶穌基督而得到應許。

「耶和華從西奈山來，在西珥山向我們顯現，祂從巴蘭山發出光輝；祂帶著千萬聖者來臨，祂右邊有閃耀的光芒。

凡以遵行律法為本的人都在咒詛之下，因為聖經上說：「凡不遵行律法書上一切命令的人必受咒詛。」
