things we have heard and known, things our ancestors have told us.We will not hide them from their descendants; we will tell the next generation the praiseworthy deeds of the Lord, his power, and the wonders he has done.He decreed statutes for Jacob and established the law in Israel, which he commanded our ancestors to teach their children,so the next generation would know them, even the children yet to be born, and they in turn would tell their children.Then they would put their trust in God and would not forget his deeds but would keep his commands.They would not be like their ancestors— a stubborn and rebellious generation, whose hearts were not loyal to God, whose spirits were not faithful to him.

he said to them,“ Take to heart all the words I have solemnly declared to you this day, so that you may command your children to obey carefully all the words of this law.

Fathers, do not exasperate your children; instead, bring them up in the training and instruction of the Lord.

We must pay the most careful attention, therefore, to what we have heard, so that we do not drift away.

Come, my children, listen to me; I will teach you the fear of the Lord.Whoever of you loves life and desires to see many good days,keep your tongue from evil and your lips from telling lies.Turn from evil and do good; seek peace and pursue it.The eyes of the Lord are on the righteous, and his ears are attentive to their cry;but the face of the Lord is against those who do evil, to blot out their name from the earth.

I have hidden your word in my heart that I might not sin against you.

He said to the Israelites,“ In the future when your descendants ask their parents,‘ What do these stones mean?’

“ In days to come, when your son asks you,‘ What does this mean?’ say to him,‘ With a mighty hand the Lord brought us out of Egypt, out of the land of slavery.When Pharaoh stubbornly refused to let us go, the Lord killed the firstborn of both people and animals in Egypt. This is why I sacrifice to the Lord the first male offspring of every womb and redeem each of my firstborn sons.’And it will be like a sign on your hand and a symbol on your forehead that the Lord brought us out of Egypt with his mighty hand.”

My son, keep my words and store up my commands within you.

“ Now write down this song and teach it to the Israelites and have them sing it, so that it may be a witness for me against them.

You see that his faith and his actions were working together, and his faith was made complete by what he did.

how shall we escape if we ignore so great a salvation? This salvation, which was first announced by the Lord, was confirmed to us by those who heard him.

You saw no form of any kind the day the Lord spoke to you at Horeb out of the fire. Therefore watch yourselves very carefully,

Therefore consider carefully how you listen. Whoever has will be given more; whoever does not have, even what they think they have will be taken from them.”

Be careful not to forget the covenant of the Lord your God that he made with you; do not make for yourselves an idol in the form of anything the Lord your God has forbidden.

The living, the living— they praise you, as I am doing today; parents tell their children about your faithfulness.

Whoever rebels against your word and does not obey it, whatever you may command them, will be put to death. Only be strong and courageous!”
