he said to them,“ Take to your heart all the words with which I am warning you today, which you will command your sons to follow carefully, all the words of this Law.

Fathers, do not provoke your children to anger, but bring them up in the discipline and instruction of the Lord.

“ The secret things belong to the Lord our God, but the things revealed belong to us and to our sons forever, so that we may follow all the words of this Law.

My son, pay attention to my words; Incline your ear to my sayings.They are not to escape from your sight; Keep them in the midst of your heart.For they are life to those who find them, And healing to all their body.Watch over your heart with all diligence, For from it flow the springs of life.

And you shall tell your son on that day, saying,‘ It is because of what the Lord did for me when I came out of Egypt.’And it shall serve as a sign to you on your hand, and as a reminder on your forehead, that the law of the Lord may be in your mouth; for with a powerful hand the Lord brought you out of Egypt.

Listen, my sons, to the instruction of a father, And pay attention so that you may gain understanding,For I give you good teaching; Do not abandon my instruction.When I was a son to my father, Tender and the only son in the sight of my mother,He taught me and said to me,“ Let your heart take hold of my words; Keep my commandments and live;Acquire wisdom! Acquire understanding! Do not forget nor turn away from the words of my mouth.Do not abandon her, and she will guard you; Love her, and she will watch over you.The beginning of wisdom is: Acquire wisdom; And with all your possessions, acquire understanding.Prize her, and she will exalt you; She will honor you if you embrace her.She will place on your head a garland of grace; She will present you with a crown of beauty.”Listen, my son, and accept my sayings, And the years of your life will be many.I have instructed you in the way of wisdom; I have led you in upright paths.When you walk, your steps will not be hampered; And if you run, you will not stumble.Take hold of instruction; do not let go. Guard her, for she is your life.

So remember what you have received and heard; and keep it, and repent. Then if you are not alert, I will come like a thief, and you will not know at what hour I will come to you.

My son, do not forget my teaching, But have your heart comply with my commandments;For length of days and years of life And peace they will add to you.Do not let kindness and truth leave you; Bind them around your neck, Write them on the tablet of your heart.

Give me your heart, my son, And let your eyes delight in my ways.

And even when I am old and gray, God, do not abandon me, Until I declare Your strength to this generation, Your power to all who are to come.

Listen, my son, to your father’s instruction, And do not ignore your mother’s teaching;

My son, see that they do not escape from your sight; Comply with sound wisdom and discretion,

For this reason we must pay much closer attention to what we have heard, so that we do not drift away from it.

This shall be a sign among you; when your children ask later, saying,‘ What do these stones mean to you?’then you shall say to them,‘ That the waters of the Jordan were cut off before the ark of the covenant of the Lord; when it crossed the Jordan, the waters of the Jordan were cut off.’ So these stones shall become a memorial to the sons of Israel forever.”

Come, you children, listen to me; I will teach you the fear of the Lord.Who is the person who desires life And loves length of days, that he may see good?Keep your tongue from evil And your lips from speaking deceit.Turn from evil and do good; Seek peace and pursue it.The eyes of the Lord are toward the righteous, And His ears are toward their cry for help.The face of the Lord is against evildoers, To eliminate the memory of them from the earth.

I have treasured Your word in my heart, So that I may not sin against You.

And he said to the sons of Israel,“ When your children ask their fathers in time to come, saying,‘ What are these stones?’

And it shall be when your son asks you in time to come, saying,‘ What is this?’ then you shall say to him,‘ With a powerful hand the Lord brought us out of Egypt, from the house of slavery.And it came about, when Pharaoh was stubborn about letting us go, that the Lord put to death every firstborn in the land of Egypt, from human firstborns to animal firstborns. Therefore, I sacrifice to the Lord the males, every firstborn of a womb, but every firstborn of my sons I redeem.’So it shall serve as a sign on your hand and as phylacteries on your forehead, for with a powerful hand the Lord brought us out of Egypt.”

My son, keep my words And treasure my commandments within you.

“ Now then, write this song for yourselves, and teach it to the sons of Israel; put it on their lips, so that this song may be a witness for Me against the sons of Israel.

You see that faith was working with his works, and as a result of the works, faith was perfected;

how will we escape if we neglect so great a salvation? After it was at first spoken through the Lord, it was confirmed to us by those who heard,

“ So be very careful yourselves, since you did not see any form on the day the Lord spoke to you at Horeb from the midst of the fire,

So take care how you listen; for whoever has, to him more will be given; and whoever does not have, even what he thinks he has will be taken away from him.”

So be careful yourselves, that you do not forget the covenant of the Lord your God which He made with you, and make for yourselves a carved image in the form of anything against which the Lord your God has commanded you.

It is the living who give thanks to You, as I do today; A father tells his sons about Your faithfulness.

Anyone who rebels against your command and does not obey your words in all that you command him, shall be put to death; only be strong and courageous.”
