Obey them completely, and you will display your wisdom and intelligence among the surrounding nations. When they hear all these decrees, they will exclaim,‘ How wise and prudent are the people of this great nation!’

Observe them carefully, for this will show your wisdom and understanding to the nations, who will hear about all these decrees and say,“ Surely this great nation is a wise and understanding people.”

Be careful to keep them. That will show the nations how wise and understanding you are. They will hear about all these rules. They’ll say,“ That great nation certainly has wise and understanding people.”

Fear of the Lord is the foundation of true wisdom. All who obey his commandments will grow in wisdom. Praise him forever!

And this is what he says to all humanity:‘ The fear of the Lord is true wisdom; to forsake evil is real understanding.’”

You have been taught the holy Scriptures from childhood, and they have given you the wisdom to receive the salvation that comes by trusting in Christ Jesus.

Fear of the Lord is the foundation of true knowledge, but fools despise wisdom and discipline.

And kings from every nation sent their ambassadors to listen to the wisdom of Solomon.

If you are wise and understand God’s ways, prove it by living an honorable life, doing good works with the humility that comes from wisdom.

The instructions of the Lord are perfect, reviving the soul. The decrees of the Lord are trustworthy, making wise the simple.

“ Today I have given you the choice between life and death, between blessings and curses. Now I call on heaven and earth to witness the choice you make. Oh, that you would choose life, so that you and your descendants might live!You can make this choice by loving the Lord your God, obeying him, and committing yourself firmly to him. This is the key to your life. And if you love and obey the Lord, you will live long in the land the Lord swore to give your ancestors Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob.”

She exclaimed to the king,“ Everything I heard in my country about your achievements and wisdom is true!I didn’t believe what was said until I arrived here and saw it with my own eyes. In fact, I had not heard the half of it! Your wisdom and prosperity are far beyond what I was told.How happy your people must be! What a privilege for your officials to stand here day after day, listening to your wisdom!Praise the Lord your God, who delights in you and has placed you on the throne of Israel. Because of the Lord’s eternal love for Israel, he has made you king so you can rule with justice and righteousness.”

“ Then all nations will call you blessed, for your land will be such a delight,” says the Lord of Heaven’s Armies.

The prudent understand where they are going, but fools deceive themselves.

These wise teachers will fall into the trap of their own foolishness, for they have rejected the word of the Lord. Are they so wise after all?

“ This is what the Lord of Heaven’s Armies says: People from nations and cities around the world will travel to Jerusalem.The people of one city will say to the people of another,‘ Come with us to Jerusalem to ask the Lord to bless us. Let’s worship the Lord of Heaven’s Armies. I’m determined to go.’Many peoples and powerful nations will come to Jerusalem to seek the Lord of Heaven’s Armies and to ask for his blessing.“ This is what the Lord of Heaven’s Armies says: In those days ten men from different nations and languages of the world will clutch at the sleeve of one Jew. And they will say,‘ Please let us walk with you, for we have heard that God is with you.’”

There is a man in your kingdom who has within him the spirit of the holy gods. During Nebuchadnezzar’s reign, this man was found to have insight, understanding, and wisdom like that of the gods. Your predecessor, the king— your predecessor King Nebuchadnezzar— made him chief over all the magicians, enchanters, astrologers, and fortune tellers of Babylon.This man Daniel, whom the king named Belteshazzar, has exceptional ability and is filled with divine knowledge and understanding. He can interpret dreams, explain riddles, and solve difficult problems. Call for Daniel, and he will tell you what the writing means.”So Daniel was brought in before the king. The king asked him,“ Are you Daniel, one of the exiles brought from Judah by my predecessor, King Nebuchadnezzar?I have heard that you have the spirit of the gods within you and that you are filled with insight, understanding, and wisdom.My wise men and enchanters have tried to read the words on the wall and tell me their meaning, but they cannot do it.I am told that you can give interpretations and solve difficult problems. If you can read these words and tell me their meaning, you will be clothed in purple robes of royal honor, and you will have a gold chain placed around your neck. You will become the third highest ruler in the kingdom.”

Whenever the king consulted them in any matter requiring wisdom and balanced judgment, he found them ten times more capable than any of the magicians and enchanters in his entire kingdom.

Your commands make me wiser than my enemies, for they are my constant guide.Yes, I have more insight than my teachers, for I am always thinking of your laws.I am even wiser than my elders, for I have kept your commandments.

“ I said to him,‘ Belteshazzar, chief of the magicians, I know that the spirit of the holy gods is in you and that no mystery is too great for you to solve. Now tell me what my dream means.
