and were in the valley near Beth Peor east of the Jordan, in the land of Sihon king of the Amorites, who reigned in Heshbon and was defeated by Moses and the Israelites as they came out of Egypt.

They were now east of the Jordan River in the valley near Beth Peor. They were in the land of Sihon, the king of the Amorites. He ruled in Heshbon. But Moses and the Israelites won the battle over him after we came out of Egypt.

但希實本王西宏不肯讓我們從他那裏經過，因為耶和華－你的神使他性情頑梗，內心剛硬，為要把他交在你手中，像今日一樣。耶和華對我說：『看，我已開始把西宏和他的地交給你了，你要開始得他的地為業。』「西宏和他的眾百姓出來迎擊我們，在雅雜與我們交戰。耶和華－我們的神把他交給我們，我們就殺了他和他的眾兒子，以及他所有的百姓。那時，我們奪了他一切的城鎮，毀滅各城的男人、女人、孩子，沒有留下一個倖存者。只有牲畜和所奪各城的財物，我們都取為自己的掠物。從亞嫩谷旁的亞羅珥和谷中的城，直到基列，沒有一座城是高得我們不能攻取的；耶和華－我們的神把它們全都交給我們了。
