They were now east of the Jordan River in the valley near Beth Peor. They were in the land of Sihon, the king of the Amorites. He ruled in Heshbon. But Moses and the Israelites won the battle over him after we came out of Egypt.

但希实本王西宏不肯让我们从他那里经过，因为耶和华—你的神使他性情顽梗，内心刚硬，为要把他交在你手中，像今日一样。耶和华对我说：‘看，我已开始把西宏和他的地交给你了，你要开始得他的地为业。’“西宏和他的众百姓出来迎击我们，在雅杂与我们交战。耶和华—我们的神把他交给我们，我们就杀了他和他的众儿子，以及他所有的百姓。那时，我们夺了他一切的城镇，毁灭各城的男人、女人、孩子，没有留下一个幸存者。只有牲畜和所夺各城的财物，我们都取为自己的掠物。从亚嫩谷旁的亚罗珥和谷中的城，直到基列，没有一座城是高得我们不能攻取的；耶和华—我们的神把它们全都交给我们了。
