and were in the valley near Beth Peor east of the Jordan, in the land of Sihon king of the Amorites, who reigned in Heshbon and was defeated by Moses and the Israelites as they came out of Egypt.

They were now east of the Jordan River in the valley near Beth Peor. They were in the land of Sihon, the king of the Amorites. He ruled in Heshbon. But Moses and the Israelites won the battle over him after we came out of Egypt.

於是我們住在伯．毗珥對面的谷中。”

那時，我們從約旦河東亞摩利人的兩個王手裡，把從亞嫩谷直到黑門山的地奪了過來，（

他們佔領了他的地和巴珊王噩的地，就是兩個亞摩利人的王，是住在約旦河東，日出的方向的；

當時，他已經擊敗了住在希實本的亞摩利人的王西宏，和住在亞斯他錄與以得來的巴珊王噩。摩西在約旦河東的摩押地，開始講解這律法，說：

我們不與他們在約旦河西邊之地同受產業，因為我們的產業是坐落在約旦河東邊。”

以色列人派使者去見亞摩利人的王西宏說：“求你容我們從你的地經過；我們不偏入田間和葡萄園，也不喝井裡的水；我們只走大路，直到過了你的境界。”西宏不容以色列人從他的境界經過，反而聚集了自己的人民，出到曠野去攻擊以色列人，西宏到了雅雜，與以色列人交戰。以色列人用刀擊殺了他，佔領了他的地，從亞嫩河到雅博河，直到亞捫人那裡，因為雅謝是亞捫人的邊界（本句或譯﹕“因為亞捫人有堅固的邊防”）。以色列人奪取了這一切城，也住在亞摩利人的各城，就是希實本，與屬於希實本的一切村莊。這希實本是亞摩利人的王西宏的京城；西宏曾經與摩押以前的王交戰，從他手中奪去了所有的地，直到亞嫩河。因此詩人說：“你們來到希實本！願西宏的城被重建，願西宏的城堅立。因為有火從希實本發出，有火燄從西宏的城冒出，吞滅了摩押的亞珥，燒毀了亞嫩河的高岡（按照《馬索拉文本》，“燒毀了亞嫩河的高岡”作“亞嫩河的高岡上的業主”﹔現參照《七十士譯本》翻譯）。摩押啊，你有禍了，基抹的民哪，你們滅亡了；基抹使自己的男子逃亡，使自己的女子被擄，交給了亞摩利人的王西宏。我們射擊他們，希實本就毀滅，直到底本。我們使地荒涼，直到挪法，挪法直伸到米底巴。”這樣，以色列人就住在亞摩利人的地。摩西派人去窺探雅謝，以色列人就佔領了雅謝的村鎮，把那裡的亞摩利人趕走。

但是希實本王西宏不肯讓我們從他那裡經過，因為耶和華我們的神使他的心意頑固，使他的心剛硬，為要把他交在你的手裡，像今日一樣。耶和華對我說：‘看哪，我已經把西宏和他的地交給你了，你可以佔領他的地作產業。’“那時西宏和他所有的人民都出來，攻擊我們，在雅雜與我們作戰。耶和華我們的神把他交給了我們，我們就把他、他的兒子們和他所有的人民都擊殺了。那時我們奪取了他所有的城邑，把每一座城，連男帶女，以及小孩子都全部毀滅，沒有留下一個存活的；只留下我們掠為己有的牲畜，和我們奪取城邑所得的戰利品。從亞嫩谷旁邊的亞羅珥和谷中的城，直到基列，沒有一座城太高，是我們不能攻下的；耶和華我們的神把這一切都交給我們了。
