and were in the valley near Beth Peor east of the Jordan, in the land of Sihon king of the Amorites, who reigned in Heshbon and was defeated by Moses and the Israelites as they came out of Egypt.

They were now east of the Jordan River in the valley near Beth Peor. They were in the land of Sihon, the king of the Amorites. He ruled in Heshbon. But Moses and the Israelites won the battle over him after we came out of Egypt.

那时，我们从约旦河东亚摩利人的两个王手里，把从亚嫩谷直到黑门山的地夺了过来，（

他们占领了他的地和巴珊王噩的地，就是两个亚摩利人的王，是住在约旦河东，日出的方向的；

当时，他已经击败了住在希实本的亚摩利人的王西宏，和住在亚斯他录与以得来的巴珊王噩。摩西在约旦河东的摩押地，开始讲解这律法，说：

我们不与他们在约旦河西边之地同受产业，因为我们的产业是坐落在约旦河东边。”

以色列人派使者去见亚摩利人的王西宏说：“求你容我们从你的地经过；我们不偏入田间和葡萄园，也不喝井里的水；我们只走大路，直到过了你的境界。”西宏不容以色列人从他的境界经过，反而聚集了自己的人民，出到旷野去攻击以色列人，西宏到了雅杂，与以色列人交战。以色列人用刀击杀了他，占领了他的地，从亚嫩河到雅博河，直到亚扪人那里，因为雅谢是亚扪人的边界（本句或译﹕“因为亚扪人有坚固的边防”）。以色列人夺取了这一切城，也住在亚摩利人的各城，就是希实本，与属于希实本的一切村庄。这希实本是亚摩利人的王西宏的京城；西宏曾经与摩押以前的王交战，从他手中夺去了所有的地，直到亚嫩河。因此诗人说：“你们来到希实本！愿西宏的城被重建，愿西宏的城坚立。因为有火从希实本发出，有火焰从西宏的城冒出，吞灭了摩押的亚珥，烧毁了亚嫩河的高冈（按照《马索拉文本》，“烧毁了亚嫩河的高冈”作“亚嫩河的高冈上的业主”﹔现参照《七十士译本》翻译）。摩押啊，你有祸了，基抹的民哪，你们灭亡了；基抹使自己的男子逃亡，使自己的女子被掳，交给了亚摩利人的王西宏。我们射击他们，希实本就毁灭，直到底本。我们使地荒凉，直到挪法，挪法直伸到米底巴。”这样，以色列人就住在亚摩利人的地。摩西派人去窥探雅谢，以色列人就占领了雅谢的村镇，把那里的亚摩利人赶走。

但是希实本王西宏不肯让我们从他那里经过，因为耶和华我们的神使他的心意顽固，使他的心刚硬，为要把他交在你的手里，像今日一样。耶和华对我说：‘看哪，我已经把西宏和他的地交给你了，你可以占领他的地作产业。’“那时西宏和他所有的人民都出来，攻击我们，在雅杂与我们作战。耶和华我们的神把他交给了我们，我们就把他、他的儿子们和他所有的人民都击杀了。那时我们夺取了他所有的城邑，把每一座城，连男带女，以及小孩子都全部毁灭，没有留下一个存活的；只留下我们掠为己有的牲畜，和我们夺取城邑所得的战利品。从亚嫩谷旁边的亚罗珥和谷中的城，直到基列，没有一座城太高，是我们不能攻下的；耶和华我们的神把这一切都交给我们了。
