From heaven he made you hear his voice to discipline you. On earth he showed you his great fire, and you heard his words from out of the fire.

耶和華對摩西說：「我會在密雲中臨到你那裡，使百姓也可以親耳聽見我與你說話的聲音，這樣他們就會永遠信賴你。」摩西把以色列人的話回報耶和華。

號角聲越來越嘹亮。摩西說話，上帝就回應他，聲音好像雷鳴。

有哪個民族像你們一樣，聽見了上帝在火中說話，還活了下來？

你降臨在西奈山，從天上與他們說話，賜給他們公正的典章、信實的律法、美好的律例和誡命。

你們必須謹慎，切勿拒絕對你們說話的上帝。因為以色列人違背了在地上警戒他們的人，尚且逃脫不了懲罰，何況我們違背從天上警戒我們的上帝呢？

那時雷電交加，號角嘹亮，山上冒煙，百姓看見此情景，都嚇得渾身顫抖，不敢挨近。他們對摩西說：「求你跟我們說話，我們必聽從。不要讓上帝直接跟我們說話，恐怕我們會喪命！」摩西對百姓說：「不用害怕，上帝降臨是要試驗你們，目的是讓你們時時敬畏祂，不致犯罪。」百姓都站得遠遠的，摩西獨自走進上帝所在的密雲中。耶和華吩咐摩西對以色列百姓說：「既然你們已經親眼看見我從天上向你們說話，

你們並非來到那座摸得到、有火焰、烏雲、黑暗、狂風、

耶和華的榮耀停留在西奈山上，密雲遮蓋了山六天。第七天，耶和華在雲中召喚摩西。
