But on the nobles of the children of Israel He did not lay His hand. So they saw God, and they ate and drank.

But He said,“ You cannot see My face; for no man shall see Me, and live.”

For who is there of all flesh who has heard the voice of the living God speaking from the midst of the fire, as we have, and lived?

Now all the people witnessed the thunderings, the lightning flashes, the sound of the trumpet, and the mountain smoking; and when the people saw it, they trembled and stood afar off.Then they said to Moses,“ You speak with us, and we will hear; but let not God speak with us, lest we die.”

Now Mount Sinai was completely in smoke, because the Lord descended upon it in fire. Its smoke ascended like the smoke of a furnace, and the whole mountain quaked greatly.And when the blast of the trumpet sounded long and became louder and louder, Moses spoke, and God answered him by voice.

Then the Lord said to Moses,“ Thus you shall say to the children of Israel:‘ You have seen that I have talked with you from heaven.

Then the Lord delivered to me two tablets of stone written with the finger of God, and on them were all the words which the Lord had spoken to you on the mountain from the midst of the fire in the day of the assembly.
