When the sons of the prophets from Jericho who were observing saw him, they said,“ The spirit of Elijah rests on Elisha.” They came to meet him and bowed down to the ground in front of him.

Then I will come down and speak with you there. I will take some of the Spirit who is on you and put the Spirit on them. They will help you bear the burden of the people, so that you do not have to bear it by yourself.

Don’t be too quick to appoint anyone as an elder, and don’t share in the sins of others. Keep yourself pure.

So give your servant a receptive heart to judge your people and to discern between good and evil. For who is able to judge this great people of yours?”

I have filled him with God’s Spirit, with wisdom, understanding, and ability in every craft

The LORD replied to Moses,“ Take Joshua son of Nun, a man who has the Spirit in him, and lay your hands on him.Have him stand before the priest Eleazar and the whole community, and commission him in their sight.Confer some of your authority on him so that the entire Israelite community will obey him.He will stand before the priest Eleazar who will consult the LORD for him with the decision of the Urim. He and all the Israelites with him, even the entire community, will go out and come back in at his command.”Moses did as the LORD commanded him. He took Joshua, had him stand before the priest Eleazar and the entire community,laid his hands on him, and commissioned him, as the LORD had spoken through Moses.

When they had crossed over, Elijah said to Elisha,“ Tell me what I can do for you before I am taken from you.” So Elisha answered,“ Please, let me inherit two shares of your spirit.”

Don’t neglect the gift that is in you; it was given to you through prophecy, with the laying on of hands by the council of elders.
