You are a holy nation. The Lord your God has set you apart for himself. He has chosen you to be his special treasure. He chose you out of all the nations on the face of the earth to be his people.The Lord chose you because he loved you very much. He didn’t choose you because you had more people than other nations. In fact, you had the smallest number of all.The Lord chose you because he loved you. He wanted to keep the promise he had made to your people of long ago. That’s why he used his mighty hand to bring you out of Egypt. He bought you back from the land where you were slaves. He set you free from the power of Pharaoh, the king of Egypt.

“ I am a Jew. I was born in Tarsus in Cilicia, but I grew up here in Jerusalem. I studied with Gamaliel. I was well trained by him in the law given to our people long ago. I wanted to serve God as much as any of you do today.

He has made his word known to the people of Jacob. He has made his laws and rules known to Israel.He hasn’t done that for any other nation. They don’t know his laws. Praise the Lord.

My whole life is in your hands. Save me from the hands of my enemies. Save me from those who are chasing me.

You are a holy nation. The Lord your God has set you apart for himself. He has chosen you to be his special treasure. He chose you out of all the nations on the face of the earth.

You died. Now your life is hidden with Christ in God.Christ is your life. When he appears again, you also will appear with him in heaven’s glory.

The people went out to see what had happened. Then they came to Jesus. They found the man who was now free of the demons. He was sitting at Jesus’ feet. He was dressed and thinking clearly. All this made the people afraid.

Here is what happened. Rebekah’s twins had not even been born. They hadn’t done anything good or bad yet. I give them eternal life, and they will never die. No one will steal them out of my hand.My Father, who has given them to me, is greater than anyone. No one can steal them out of my Father’s hand.

I will not remain in the world any longer. But they are still in the world, and I am coming to you. Holy Father, keep them safe by the power of your name. It is the name you gave me. Keep them safe so they can be one, just as you and I are one.While I was with them, I guarded them. I kept them safe through the name you gave me. None of them has been lost, except the one who was headed for ruin. It happened so that Scripture would come true.“ I am coming to you now. But I say these things while I am still in the world. I say them so that those you gave me can have the same joy that I have.I have given them your word. The world has hated them. That’s because they are not part of the world any more than I am.I do not pray that you will take them out of the world. I pray that you will keep them safe from the evil one.

He says,“ Gather this holy people around me. They made a covenant with me by offering a sacrifice.”

My son, accept my words. Store up my commands inside you.

Who can separate us from Christ’s love? Can trouble or hard times or harm or hunger? Can nakedness or danger or war?It is written,“ Because of you, we face death all day long. We are considered as sheep to be killed.”( Psalm 44:22)No! In all these things we are more than winners! We owe it all to Christ, who has loved us.I am absolutely sure that not even death or life can separate us from God’s love. Not even angels or demons, the present or the future, or any powers can separate us.Not even the highest places or the lowest, or anything else in all creation can separate us. Nothing at all can ever separate us from God’s love. That’s because of what Christ Jesus our Lord has done.

Now obey me completely. Keep my covenant. If you do, then out of all the nations you will be my special treasure. The whole earth is mine.But you will be a kingdom of priests to serve me. You will be my holy nation.’ That is what you must tell the Israelites.”

After three days they found him in the temple courtyard. He was sitting with the teachers. He was listening to them and asking them questions.

He chose our land for us. The people of Jacob are proud of their land, and God loves them.

The Lord appeared to us in the past. He said,“ I have loved you with a love that lasts forever. I have kept on loving you with a kindness that never fails.

But God loves us deeply. He is full of mercy.So he gave us new life because of what Christ has done. He gave us life even when we were dead in sin. God’s grace has saved you.

He guards the paths of his faithful servants. But evil people will lie silent in their dark graves.“ People don’t win just because they are strong.

I will make a covenant with them that will last forever. I promise that I will never stop doing good to them. I will cause them to respect me. Then they will never turn away from me again.

We and the Lord were your examples. You followed us. You welcomed our message even when you were suffering terribly. You welcomed it with the joy the Holy Spirit gives.
