In a desert land he found him, in a barren and howling waste. He shielded him and cared for him; he guarded him as the apple of his eye,

The Lord found Israel in a desert. He found them in an empty and windy land. He took care of them and kept them safe. He guarded them as he would guard his own eyes.

萬軍之耶和華說，祂在彰顯榮耀之後要差遣我去那些擄掠你們的國家，因為誰侵害你們，就是侵害祂的瞳人。

求你保護我，像保護眼中的瞳人，用你的翅膀蔭庇我，

他們從不自問，『耶和華曾把我們帶出埃及，引導我們走過沙漠縱橫、深坑滿布、乾旱幽暗、杳無人跡的曠野，祂如今在哪裡呢？』

遵守我的誡命，你便存活。要愛護我的訓言，如愛護眼中的瞳人。

我曾在乾旱的曠野照顧你們，

你是我的藏身之所，你保護我免遭危難，用得勝的凱歌四面環繞我。（細拉）耶和華說：「我要教導你，引領你走正路；我要勸導你，看顧你。不要像無知的騾馬，不用嚼環轡頭就不馴服。」惡人必多遭禍患，耶和華的慈愛必環繞信靠祂的人。

帶領你們走過乾旱、可怕、毒蛇和蠍子出沒的大曠野。祂使堅硬的磐石流出水來給你們喝，在曠野中把你們祖先從未見過的嗎哪賜給你們吃，為要磨煉你們、考驗你們，使你們最終得到益處。

你受過律法的教導，知道上帝的旨意，能明辨是非；

你還是對他們大施憐憫，沒有在曠野離棄他們。白天，雲柱沒有離開他們，仍然引導他們前行；夜間，火柱仍然照亮他們當走的路。你差遣你良善的靈去教導他們，沒有停止賜他們嗎哪吃，也沒有停止賜他們水喝。在曠野的四十年間，你供養他們，使他們一無所缺，他們的衣服沒有穿破，腳也沒有走腫。

那從曠野上來、靠在良人身旁的是誰呢？我在蘋果樹下喚醒你，你母親在那裡懷你養你，為你受生產之苦。

祂將自己的話傳於雅各，將自己的律例和法令指示以色列。祂未曾這樣對待其他國家，他們不知道祂的律法。你們要讚美耶和華！

祂讓你們聽見祂從天上來的聲音，好教導你們，又在地上讓你們看見祂的烈火，並聽見祂在烈火中說的話。

他們在曠野中飄泊，居無定所，又饑又渴，陷入絕境。

其實益處非常多！首先，上帝的聖言託付給了猶太人。
