他们把奉到耶和华殿的银子运出来的时候，希勒家祭司发现了耶和华藉摩西所传的律法书。希勒家对沙番书记说：“我在耶和华殿里发现了律法书。”希勒家把书递给沙番。

希勒家大祭司对沙番书记说：“我在耶和华殿里发现了律法书。”希勒家把书递给沙番，沙番就读了。沙番书记到王那里，把这事回覆王说：“你的仆人已把殿里所发现的银子倒出来，交在管理耶和华殿督工的手里了。”沙番书记又向王报告说：“希勒家祭司递给我一卷书。”沙番就在王面前朗读那书。王听见律法书上的话，就撕裂衣服。

约柜里没有别的，只有两块石版，就是以色列人出埃及地，耶和华与他们立约的时候，摩西在何烈山放在那里的。
