我們曉得、律法無論說甚麼，都是向律法以內的人講的，好堵住每一個人的口，使全世界的人都伏在上帝審判之下；所以血肉人在上帝面前、都不能由律法上的行為得稱為義：因為由於律法、人才認識罪。

『你們去，為我、為人民、為猶大眾人、將所發現這一卷書上的話尋問永恆主；因為我們列祖沒有聽從這書上的話，沒有遵行、照這一切所寫關於我們的事，以致永恆主向我們大發烈怒。』於是希勒家祭司、和亞希甘、亞革波、沙番、亞撒雅、去見女神言人戶勒大；戶勒大是掌管禮服的沙龍的妻子；沙龍是哈珥哈斯的孫子，特瓦的兒子；戶勒大住在耶路撒冷第二區；他們就和她說。她對他們說：『永恆主以色列的上帝這麼說：「你們要對那差遣你們來見我的人說：永恆主這麼說：看吧，我必照猶大王所唸那書上的一切話降災禍於這地和這地的居民。因為他們離棄了我，向別的神燻祭，好用他們手所作的一切事來惹我發怒，故此我必向這地發怒火，總不熄滅。至於差遣你們來尋問永恆主的那猶大王、你們要這樣對他說：永恆主以色列的上帝這麼說：論到你所聽見的話，你一聽見我指着這地方和這地方的居民所說的話說，要使這地成了令人驚駭、令人咒詛的對象，你的心便軟了下來，你就在我永恆主面前自己謙卑，又撕裂了衣服，又在我面前哭，因此我也垂聽你的禱告；這是永恆主發神諭說的。

他們將奉到永恆主之殿的銀子運出來的時候、祭司希勒家發現永恆主的律法書、由摩西經手傳下來的。希勒家應時對祕書沙番說：『我在永恆主殿裏發現了律法書』；希勒家就將書遞給沙番。

大祭司希勒家對祕書沙番說：『我在永恆主殿裏發現了《律法書》。』希勒家將書遞給祕書沙番，沙番就唸它。祕書沙番去見王，向王回話，說：『僕人已將殿裏所有的銀子都倒出來，交在辦事的人、永恆主殿裏監工的人、手裏了。』祕書沙番又告訴王說：『祭司希勒家遞給了我一卷書。』沙番就在王面前唸它。王聽見《律法書》上的話，便撕裂衣服。

約櫃裏只有兩塊石版，就是以色列人出埃及地以後、永恆主同他們立約的時候、摩西在何烈山所安放在那裏的：除此以外、並無別物。

因為憑着律法、我已經向律法死了，叫我可以向着上帝而活。
