I’m calling for the heavens and the earth to be witnesses against you this very day. I’m offering you the choice of life or death. You can choose either blessings or curses. But I want you to choose life. Then you and your children will live.

But as for me and my house, we will serve the Lord.”So the people answered and said:“ Far be it from us that we should forsake the Lord to serve other gods;for the Lord our God is He who brought us and our fathers up out of the land of Egypt, from the house of bondage, who did those great signs in our sight, and preserved us in all the way that we went and among all the people through whom we passed.And the Lord drove out from before us all the people, including the Amorites who dwelt in the land. We also will serve the Lord, for He is our God.”But Joshua said to the people,“ You cannot serve the Lord, for He is a holy God. He is a jealous God; He will not forgive your transgressions nor your sins.If you forsake the Lord and serve foreign gods, then He will turn and do you harm and consume you, after He has done you good.”And the people said to Joshua,“ No, but we will serve the Lord!”So Joshua said to the people,“ You are witnesses against yourselves that you have chosen the Lord for yourselves, to serve Him.” And they said,“ We are witnesses!”

But one thing is needed, and Mary has chosen that good part, which will not be taken away from her.”

I call heaven and earth to witness against you this day, that you will soon utterly perish from the land which you cross over the Jordan to possess; you will not prolong your days in it, but will be utterly destroyed.

Gather to me all the elders of your tribes, and your officers, that I may speak these words in their hearing and call heaven and earth to witness against them.

Your testimonies I have taken as a heritage forever, For they are the rejoicing of my heart.

For the promise is to you and to your children, and to all who are afar off, as many as the Lord our God will call.”

“ Give ear, O heavens, and I will speak; And hear, O earth, the words of my mouth.

Let Your hand become my help, For I have chosen Your precepts.

Be astonished, O heavens, at this, And be horribly afraid; Be very desolate,” says the Lord.“ For My people have committed two evils: They have forsaken Me, the fountain of living waters, And hewn themselves cisterns— broken cisterns that can hold no water.

Hear, O heavens, and give ear, O earth! For the Lord has spoken:“ I have nourished and brought up children, And they have rebelled against Me;

O earth, earth, earth, Hear the word of the Lord!Thus says the Lord:‘ Write this man down as childless, A man who shall not prosper in his days; For none of his descendants shall prosper, Sitting on the throne of David, And ruling anymore in Judah.’”

Because they hated knowledge And did not choose the fear of the Lord,

For thus says the Lord:“ To the eunuchs who keep My Sabbaths, And choose what pleases Me, And hold fast My covenant,
