“ But the Lord was angry with me on account of you and would not listen to me. The Lord said to me,‘ That’s enough! Do not speak to Me again about this matter.

But because of you the Lord was angry with me and would not listen to me.“ That is enough,” the Lord said.“ Do not speak to me anymore about this matter.

They angered the Lord at the waters of Meribah, and Moses suffered because of them;for they embittered his spirit, and he spoke rashly with his lips.

The Lord then said to him,“ This is the land I promised Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob,‘ I will give it to your descendants.’ I have let you see it with your own eyes, but you will not cross into it.”

“ My son,” David said to Solomon,“ It was in my heart to build a house for the name of Yahweh my God,but the word of the Lord came to me:‘ You have shed much blood and waged great wars. You are not to build a house for My name because you have shed so much blood on the ground before Me.But a son will be born to you; he will be a man of rest. I will give him rest from all his surrounding enemies, for his name will be Solomon, and I will give peace and quiet to Israel during his reign.

For both of you broke faith with Me among the Israelites at the waters of Meribath-kadesh in the Wilderness of Zin by failing to treat Me as holy in their presence.Although from a distance you will view the land that I am giving the Israelites, you will not go there.”

“ Go to David My servant and say,‘ This is what the Lord says: You are not the one to build Me a house to dwell in.

The Lord spoke to Moses,“ Take the staff and assemble the community. You and your brother Aaron are to speak to the rock while they watch, and it will yield its water. You will bring out water for them from the rock and provide drink for the community and their livestock.”So Moses took the staff from the Lord’s presence just as He had commanded him.Moses and Aaron summoned the assembly in front of the rock, and Moses said to them,“ Listen, you rebels! Must we bring water out of this rock for you?”Then Moses raised his hand and struck the rock twice with his staff, so that a great amount of water gushed out, and the community and their livestock drank.But the Lord said to Moses and Aaron,“ Because you did not trust Me to show My holiness in the sight of the Israelites, you will not bring this assembly into the land I have given them.”

Concerning this, I pleaded with the Lord three times to take it away from me.

Going a little farther, He fell facedown and prayed,“ My Father! If it is possible, let this cup pass from Me. Yet not as I will, but as You will.”

Then the Lord said to Moses,“ Go up this mountain of the Abarim range and see the land that I have given the Israelites.After you have seen it, you will also be gathered to your people, as Aaron your brother was.When the community quarreled in the Wilderness of Zin, both of you rebelled against My command to show My holiness in their sight at the waters.” Those were the waters of Meribah of Kadesh in the Wilderness of Zin.

He will build a house for Me, and I will establish his throne forever.I will be a father to him, and he will be a son to Me. I will not take away My faithful love from him as I took it from the one who was before you.

Then King David rose to his feet and said,“ Listen to me, my brothers and my people. It was in my heart to build a house as a resting place for the ark of the Lord’s covenant and as a footstool for our God. I had made preparations to build,but God said to me,‘ You are not to build a house for My name because you are a man of war and have shed blood.’“ Yet the Lord God of Israel chose me out of all my father’s household to be king over Israel forever. For He chose Judah as leader, and from the house of Judah, my father’s household, and from my father’s sons, He was pleased to make me king over all Israel.

But He was pierced because of our transgressions, crushed because of our iniquities; punishment for our peace was on Him, and we are healed by His wounds.We all went astray like sheep; we all have turned to our own way; and the Lord has punished Him for the iniquity of us all.

But Jesus answered,“ You don’t know what you’re asking. Are you able to drink the cup that I am about to drink?”“ We are able,” they said to Him.
