那時，約押正在攻打亞捫人的拉巴，攻取了王城。

我不是在他們面前把亞摩利人消滅了嗎？亞摩利人雖像香柏樹高大，像橡樹那樣堅固；我卻要滅絕它樹上的果子，拔除樹下的根。

在戰爭之日的吶喊中，在風雨天的暴風中；我必在拉巴的城牆放火，燒毀他的堡壘。

過了年，在列王出征的時候，大衛派遣約押和自己的臣僕，以及以色列眾軍一同出征。他們殲滅了亞捫人，並且包圍了拉巴。大衛卻留在耶路撒冷。

（那地也算為利乏音人的地，以前利乏音人住在那裡，但亞捫人稱他們為散送冥。

你要定出一條路，使刀臨到亞捫的拉巴，又要定出另一條路，使刀臨到猶大，攻擊堅固城耶路撒冷。

這以米人，像亞衲族人一樣，也算為利乏音人；但摩押人稱他們為以米人。

有一個挑戰的人從非利士人的軍營中出來，名叫歌利亞，是迦特人，身高三公尺。
