Be sure there is no man, woman, clan, or tribe among you today whose heart turns away from the LORD our God to go and worship the gods of those nations. Be sure there is no root among you bearing poisonous and bitter fruit.

惟恐你们中间，或男或女，或族长或支派长，今日心里偏离耶和华我们的神，去侍奉那些国的神；又怕你们中间有恶根生出苦菜和茵陈来，

惟恐你们中间有人，或男或女，或宗族或支派，今日心里偏离耶和华—我们的上帝，去事奉那些国的神明，又怕你们中间有根长出苦菜和茵陈来。

我同你們立約宣誓，是恐怕你們中間有人、或男人或女人、或家族或族派、今日心裏偏離了永恆主我們的上帝，去事奉那些國的神；又恐怕你們中間有惡根、結出毒菜和苦堇為果實來，

此約之立、以免爾中男女、宗族支派、今日中心違棄我上帝耶和華、往事斯族之神、致有荼毒之根、生於爾中、

爾中之男女、宗族支派、其心毋違我上帝耶和華、而奉事他邦之上帝、爾中之人、其毒毋太苦、如茵蔯之根、

如爾中或男或女、或宗族、或支派、今日心棄主我之天主、往事此諸邦之神、若有苦毒之根、生於爾中、

Make sure there is no man or woman, clan or tribe among you today whose heart turns away from the Lord our God to go and worship the gods of those nations; make sure there is no root among you that produces such bitter poison.

Make sure there isn’t a man or woman among your families or tribes who turns away from the Lord our God. No one must worship the gods of those nations. Make sure that kind of worship doesn’t spread like bitter poison through your whole community.

Beware lest there be among you a man or woman or clan or tribe whose heart is turning away today from the Lord our God to go and serve the gods of those nations. Beware lest there be among you a root bearing poisonous and bitter fruit,

I am making this covenant with you so that no one among you— no man, woman, clan, or tribe— will turn away from the Lord our God to worship these gods of other nations, and so that no root among you bears bitter and poisonous fruit.

so that there will not be among you a man or woman, or family or tribe, whose heart turns away today from the Lord our God, to go to serve the gods of those nations; that there will not be among you a root bearing poisonous fruit and wormwood.

so that there may not be among you man or woman or family or tribe, whose heart turns away today from the Lord our God, to go and serve the gods of these nations, and that there may not be among you a root bearing bitterness or wormwood;

lest there should be among you man, or woman, or family, or tribe, whose heart turneth away this day from Jehovah our God, to go to serve the gods of those nations; lest there should be among you a root that beareth gall and wormwood;

Be sure there is no man, woman, clan, or tribe among you today whose heart turns away from the Lord our God to go and worship the gods of those nations. Be sure there is no root among you bearing poisonous and bitter fruit.

Lest there should be among you man, or woman, or family, or tribe, whose heart turneth away this day from the LORD our God, to go[ and] serve the gods of these nations; lest there should be among you a root that beareth gall and wormwood;

Beware that the heart of no man, woman, clan, or tribe among you turns away from the LORD our God today to pursue and serve the gods of those nations; beware that there is among you no root producing poisonous and bitter fruit.

lest there should be among you man, woman, family, or tribe whose heart turns away today from Yahweh our God, to go to serve the gods of those nations; lest there should be among you a root that produces bitter poison;

Make sure that no one falls short of the grace of God and that no root of bitterness springs up, causing trouble and defiling many.

Be careful that you are not enticed to turn aside, serve, and bow in worship to other gods.Then the LORD’s anger will burn against you. He will shut the sky, and there will be no rain; the land will not yield its produce, and you will perish quickly from the good land the LORD is giving you.

“ If a prophet or someone who has dreams arises among you and proclaims a sign or wonder to you,and that sign or wonder he has promised you comes about, but he says,‘ Let’s follow other gods,’ which you have not known,‘ and let’s worship them,’do not listen to that prophet’s words or to that dreamer. For the LORD your God is testing you to know whether you love the LORD your God with all your heart and all your soul.You must follow the LORD your God and fear him. You must keep his commands and listen to him; you must worship him and remain faithful to him.That prophet or dreamer must be put to death, because he has urged rebellion against the LORD your God who brought you out of the land of Egypt and redeemed you from the place of slavery, to turn you from the way the LORD your God has commanded you to walk. You must purge the evil from you.“ If your brother, the son of your mother, or your son or daughter, or the wife you embrace, or your closest friend secretly entices you, saying,‘ Let’s go and worship other gods’— which neither you nor your ancestors have known,any of the gods of the peoples around you, near you or far from you, from one end of the earth to the other—do not yield to him or listen to him. Show him no pity, and do not spare him or shield him.Instead, you must kill him. Your hand is to be the first against him to put him to death, and then the hands of all the people.Stone him to death for trying to turn you away from the LORD your God who brought you out of the land of Egypt, out of the place of slavery.All Israel will hear and be afraid, and they will no longer do anything evil like this among you.“ If you hear it said about one of your cities the LORD your God is giving you to live in,that wicked men have sprung up among you, led the inhabitants of their city astray, and said,‘ Let’s go and worship other gods,’ which you have not known,you are to inquire, investigate, and interrogate thoroughly. If the report turns out to be true that this detestable act has been done among you,you must strike down the inhabitants of that city with the sword. Completely destroy everyone in it as well as its livestock with the sword.

Therefore, this is what the LORD of Armies, the God of Israel, says:“ I am about to feed this people wormwood and give them poisonous water to drink.

Do horses gallop on the cliffs? Does anyone plow there with oxen? Yet you have turned justice into poison and the fruit of righteousness into wormwood—

Watch out, brothers and sisters, so that there won’t be in any of you an evil, unbelieving heart that turns away from the living God.

For I see you are poisoned by bitterness and bound by wickedness.”

“ If a man or woman among you in one of your towns that the LORD your God will give you is discovered doing evil in the sight of the LORD your God and violating his covenantand has gone to serve other gods by bowing in worship to the sun, moon, or all the stars in the sky— which I have forbidden—and if you are told or hear about it, then investigate it thoroughly. If the report turns out to be true that this detestable act has been done in Israel,you are to bring out to your city gates that man or woman who has done this evil thing and stone them to death.The one condemned to die is to be executed on the testimony of two or three witnesses. No one is to be executed on the testimony of a single witness.The witnesses’ hands are to be the first in putting him to death, and after that, the hands of all the people. You must purge the evil from you.

They speak mere words, taking false oaths while making covenants. So lawsuits break out like poisonous weeds in the furrows of a field.
