耶和華對我說：「你要在猶大城邑中和耶路撒冷街市上，宣告這一切話說：你們當聽從遵行這約的話。

惟獨你可以親近耶和華；他們卻不可親近；百姓也不可和你一同上來。」摩西下山，將耶和華的命令典章都述說與百姓聽。眾百姓齊聲說：「耶和華所吩咐的，我們都必遵行。」摩西將耶和華的命令都寫上。清早起來，在山下築一座壇，按以色列十二支派立十二根柱子，又打發以色列人中的少年人去獻燔祭，又向耶和華獻牛為平安祭。摩西將血一半盛在盆中，一半灑在壇上；又將約書念給百姓聽。他們說：「耶和華所吩咐的，我們都必遵行。」摩西將血灑在百姓身上，說：「你看！這是立約的血，是耶和華按這一切話與你們立約的憑據。」

不像我拉着他們祖宗的手，領他們出埃及地的時候，與他們所立的約。我雖作他們的丈夫，他們卻背了我的約。這是耶和華說的。」

「當聽這約的話，告訴猶大人和耶路撒冷的居民，

不像我拉着他們祖宗的手，領他們出埃及的時候，與他們所立的約。因為他們不恆心守我的約，我也不理他們。這是主說的。

你們是先知的子孫，也承受神與你們祖宗所立的約，就是對亞伯拉罕說：『地上萬族都要因你的後裔得福。』

人必回答說：『是因這地的人離棄了耶和華－他們列祖的神，領他們出埃及地的時候與他們所立的約，

為要你順從耶和華－你神今日與你所立的約，向你所起的誓。

你在何烈山站在耶和華－你神面前的那日，耶和華對我說：『你為我招聚百姓，我要叫他們聽見我的話，使他們存活在世的日子，可以學習敬畏我，又可以教訓兒女這樣行。』

你們要謹慎，免得忘記耶和華－你們神與你們所立的約，為自己雕刻偶像，就是耶和華－你神所禁止你做的偶像；

他將所吩咐你們當守的約指示你們，就是十條誡，並將這誡寫在兩塊石版上。
