He rose early the next morning and set up an altar and twelve pillars for the twelve tribes of Israel at the base of the mountain.Then he sent out young Israelite men, and they offered burnt offerings and sacrificed bulls as fellowship offerings to the LORD.Moses took half the blood and set it in basins; the other half of the blood he splattered on the altar.He then took the covenant scroll and read it aloud to the people. They responded,“ We will do and obey all that the LORD has commanded.”Moses took the blood, splattered it on the people, and said,“ This is the blood of the covenant that the LORD has made with you concerning all these words.”

This one will not be like the covenant I made with their ancestors on the day I took them by the hand to lead them out of the land of Egypt— my covenant that they broke even though I am their master”— the LORD’s declaration.

“ Listen to the words of this covenant and tell them to the men of Judah and the residents of Jerusalem.

The day you stood before the LORD your God at Horeb, the LORD said to me,‘ Assemble the people before me, and I will let them hear my words, so that they may learn to fear me all the days they live on the earth and may instruct their children.’

Be careful not to forget the covenant of the LORD your God that he made with you, and make an idol for yourselves in the shape of anything he has forbidden you.

He declared his covenant to you. He commanded you to follow the Ten Commandments, which he wrote on two stone tablets.
