王站在柱旁，在耶和华面前立约，要一心一意跟从耶和华，谨守他的诫命、典章和律例，实行这书上所写有关这约的话。众民都一同立约。

‘我必把那些违犯我的约的人交出去；他们没有履行在我面前和我立约的誓言，就是他们把牛犊劈开两半，并且从两半中间走过去时立下的。

摩西上到神那里去，耶和华从山上呼唤他，说：“你要这样告诉雅各家，吩咐以色列人说：‘我向埃及人所行的，你们都看见了；也看见了我怎样像鹰一样把你们背在翅膀上，带领你们到我这里来。现在你们若是实在听我的话，遵守我的约，你们就必在万民中作属我的产业，因为全地都是我的。

耶和华又对我说：“你要在犹大各城中和耶路撒冷的街道上，宣告这一切话，说：‘你们要听从、遵行这约的话。

只有摩西一人可以走近耶和华，他们却不可以亲近；人民也不可和摩西一同上来。”摩西下来，把耶和华的一切话和一切典章都向人民讲述；人民都同声回答，说：“耶和华吩咐的一切话，我们都必遵行。”摩西把耶和华的一切话都记下了；清早起来，在山下筑了一座祭坛，按着以色列十二支派立了十二根柱子。又派了以色列人中的青年人去献燔祭，又向耶和华杀牛献为平安祭。摩西取了一半的血，盛在盆中；又取了另一半的血，洒在祭坛上。他又把约书拿过来，念给人民听；他们说：“耶和华吩咐的一切话，我们都必遵行和听从。”摩西就取了血来，洒在人民的身上，说：“看哪，这是立约的血，这约是耶和华按着这一切话与你们立的。”

这新约不像从前我拉他们祖先的手，领他们出埃及地的日子，与他们所立的约；我虽然是他们的丈夫，他们却违背了我的约。”这是耶和华的宣告。

“你要告诉犹大人和耶路撒冷的居民：‘你们要听从这约的话。’

这新约不像从前我拉他们祖先的手，领他们出埃及的日子与他们所立的约。因为他们没有遵守我的约，我就不理会他们。这是主说的。

你们是先知的子孙，也是承受神向你们祖先所立之约的人。神曾经对亚伯拉罕说：‘地上万族，都要因你的后裔得福。’

人就必回答：‘是因为他们离弃了耶和华他们列祖的神的约，就是耶和华把他们从埃及地领出来的时候，与他们所立的；

为要叫你遵守耶和华你的神今日与你所立的约，和他向你所起的誓；

免得你忘了你在何烈山，站在耶和华你们的神面前的那天。那时耶和华对我说：‘你要为我召集众民，我要叫他们听我的话，使他们在那地上生活的日子，可以学习敬畏我，又可以教训自己的儿女。’

你们要自己谨慎，免得你们忘记了耶和华你们的神与你们所立的约，你们就为自己制造偶像，制造任何神像的形象，就是耶和华你的神吩咐你不可作的。

把他的约，就是他吩咐你们遵守的那十条诫命（“十条诫命”直译是“十句话”），向你们宣布出来；又把它们写在两块石版上。
