The stranger that[ is] within thee shall get up above thee very high; and thou shalt come down very low.

The foreigners who reside among you will rise above you higher and higher, but you will sink lower and lower.

Outsiders who live among you will become your leaders. They will rise higher and higher. But you will sink lower and lower.

The sojourner who is among you shall rise higher and higher above you, and you shall come down lower and lower.

“ The foreigners living among you will become stronger and stronger, while you become weaker and weaker.

The resident alien among you will rise higher and higher above you, while you sink lower and lower.

The stranger who is among you will rise above you higher and higher, and you will go down lower and lower.

“ The alien who is among you shall rise higher and higher above you, and you shall come down lower and lower.

The sojourner that is in the midst of thee shall mount up above thee higher and higher; and thou shalt come down lower and lower.

The foreign resident among you will rise higher and higher above you, while you sink lower and lower.

The foreigners who reside among you will become higher and higher over you and you will become lower and lower.

The foreigner who is among you will mount up above you higher and higher, and you will come down lower and lower.

And the LORD shall make thee the head, and not the tail; and thou shalt be above only, and thou shalt not be beneath; if that thou hearken unto the commandments of the LORD thy God, which I command thee this day, to observe and to do[ them]:

Wherefore I also said, I will not drive them out from before you; but they shall be[ as thorns] in your sides, and their gods shall be a snare unto you.

Then three thousand men of Judah went to the top of the rock Etam, and said to Samson, Knowest thou not that the Philistines[ are] rulers over us? what[ is] this[ that] thou hast done unto us? And he said unto them, As they did unto me, so have I done unto them.And they said unto him, We are come down to bind thee, that we may deliver thee into the hand of the Philistines. And Samson said unto them, Swear unto me, that ye will not fall upon me yourselves.

And he carried away all Jerusalem, and all the princes, and all the mighty men of valour,[ even] ten thousand captives, and all the craftsmen and smiths: none remained, save the poorest sort of the people of the land.And he carried away Jehoiachin to Babylon, and the king’s mother, and the king’s wives, and his officers, and the mighty of the land,[ those] carried he into captivity from Jerusalem to Babylon.And all the men of might,[ even] seven thousand, and craftsmen and smiths a thousand, all[ that were] strong[ and] apt for war, even them the king of Babylon brought captive to Babylon.

Then said Pilate unto them, Take ye him, and judge him according to your law. The Jews therefore said unto him, It is not lawful for us to put any man to death:

And the anger of the LORD was hot against Israel, and he sold them into the hands of the Philistines, and into the hands of the children of Ammon.And that year they vexed and oppressed the children of Israel: eighteen years, all the children of Israel that[ were] on the other side Jordan in the land of the Amorites, which[ is] in Gilead.Moreover the children of Ammon passed over Jordan to fight also against Judah, and against Benjamin, and against the house of Ephraim; so that Israel was sore distressed.And the children of Israel cried unto the LORD, saying, We have sinned against thee, both because we have forsaken our God, and also served Baalim.

And the LORD rejected all the seed of Israel, and afflicted them, and delivered them into the hand of spoilers, until he had cast them out of his sight.

And the LORD sold them into the hand of Jabin king of Canaan, that reigned in Hazor; the captain of whose host[ was] Sisera, which dwelt in Harosheth of the Gentiles.And the children of Israel cried unto the LORD: for he had nine hundred chariots of iron; and twenty years he mightily oppressed the children of Israel.

Until the LORD removed Israel out of his sight, as he had said by all his servants the prophets. So was Israel carried away out of their own land to Assyria unto this day.

But they cried out, Away with[ him], away with[ him], crucify him. Pilate saith unto them, Shall I crucify your King? The chief priests answered, We have no king but Caesar.

And the children of Israel did evil in the sight of the LORD, and served Baalim:And they forsook the LORD God of their fathers, which brought them out of the land of Egypt, and followed other gods, of the gods of the people that[ were] round about them, and bowed themselves unto them, and provoked the LORD to anger.And they forsook the LORD, and served Baal and Ashtaroth.And the anger of the LORD was hot against Israel, and he delivered them into the hands of spoilers that spoiled them, and he sold them into the hands of their enemies round about, so that they could not any longer stand before their enemies.Whithersoever they went out, the hand of the LORD was against them for evil, as the LORD had said, and as the LORD had sworn unto them: and they were greatly distressed.

And Jonathan smote the garrison of the Philistines that[ was] in Geba, and the Philistines heard[ of it]. And Saul blew the trumpet throughout all the land, saying, Let the Hebrews hear.And all Israel heard say[ that] Saul had smitten a garrison of the Philistines, and[ that] Israel also was had in abomination with the Philistines. And the people were called together after Saul to Gilgal.And the Philistines gathered themselves together to fight with Israel, thirty thousand chariots, and six thousand horsemen, and people as the sand which[ is] on the sea shore in multitude: and they came up, and pitched in Michmash, eastward from Bethaven.When the men of Israel saw that they were in a strait,( for the people were distressed,) then the people did hide themselves in caves, and in thickets, and in rocks, and in high places, and in pits.And[ some of] the Hebrews went over Jordan to the land of Gad and Gilead. As for Saul, he[ was] yet in Gilgal, and all the people followed him trembling.

But his father and his mother knew not that it[ was] of the LORD, that he sought an occasion against the Philistines: for at that time the Philistines had dominion over Israel.

Now there was no smith found throughout all the land of Israel: for the Philistines said, Lest the Hebrews make[ them] swords or spears:But all the Israelites went down to the Philistines, to sharpen every man his share, and his coulter, and his axe, and his mattock.Yet they had a file for the mattocks, and for the coulters, and for the forks, and for the axes, and to sharpen the goads.So it came to pass in the day of battle, that there was neither sword nor spear found in the hand of any of the people that[ were] with Saul and Jonathan: but with Saul and with Jonathan his son was there found.And the garrison of the Philistines went out to the passage of Michmash.
