The foreigners who reside among you will rise above you higher and higher, but you will sink lower and lower.

Outsiders who live among you will become your leaders. They will rise higher and higher. But you will sink lower and lower.

The sojourner who is among you shall rise higher and higher above you, and you shall come down lower and lower.

“ The foreigners living among you will become stronger and stronger, while you become weaker and weaker.

The resident alien among you will rise higher and higher above you, while you sink lower and lower.

The stranger who is among you will rise above you higher and higher, and you will go down lower and lower.

“ The alien who is among you shall rise higher and higher above you, and you shall come down lower and lower.

The foreign resident among you will rise higher and higher above you, while you sink lower and lower.

The stranger that[ is] within thee shall get up above thee very high; and thou shalt come down very low.

The foreigners who reside among you will become higher and higher over you and you will become lower and lower.

And Jehovah will make thee the head, and not the tail; and thou shalt be above only, and thou shalt not be beneath; if thou shalt hearken unto the commandments of Jehovah thy God, which I command thee this day, to observe and to do them,

Wherefore I also said, I will not drive them out from before you; but they shall be as thorns in your sides, and their gods shall be a snare unto you.

And Jehovah rejected all the seed of Israel, and afflicted them, and delivered them into the hand of spoilers, until he had cast them out of his sight.

And Jehovah sold them into the hand of Jabin king of Canaan, that reigned in Hazor; the captain of whose host was Sisera, who dwelt in Harosheth of the Gentiles.And the children of Israel cried unto Jehovah: for he had nine hundred chariots of iron; and twenty years he mightily oppressed the children of Israel.

until Jehovah removed Israel out of his sight, as he spake by all his servants the prophets. So Israel was carried away out of their own land to Assyria unto this day.

They therefore cried out, Away with him, away with him, crucify him! Pilate saith unto them, Shall I crucify your King? The chief priests answered, We have no king but Cæsar.

And the children of Israel did that which was evil in the sight of Jehovah, and served the Baalim;and they forsook Jehovah, the God of their fathers, who brought them out of the land of Egypt, and followed other gods, of the gods of the peoples that were round about them, and bowed themselves down unto them: and they provoked Jehovah to anger.And they forsook Jehovah, and served Baal and the Ashtaroth.And the anger of Jehovah was kindled against Israel, and he delivered them into the hands of spoilers that despoiled them; and he sold them into the hands of their enemies round about, so that they could not any longer stand before their enemies.Whithersoever they went out, the hand of Jehovah was against them for evil, as Jehovah had spoken, and as Jehovah had sworn unto them: and they were sore distressed.

And Jonathan smote the garrison of the Philistines that was in Geba; and the Philistines heard of it. And Saul blew the trumpet throughout all the land, saying, Let the Hebrews hear.And all Israel heard say that Saul had smitten the garrison of the Philistines, and also that Israel was had in abomination with the Philistines. And the people were gathered together after Saul to Gilgal.And the Philistines assembled themselves together to fight with Israel, thirty thousand chariots, and six thousand horsemen, and people as the sand which is on the sea- shore in multitude: and they came up, and encamped in Michmash, eastward of Beth- aven.When the men of Israel saw that they were in a strait( for the people were distressed), then the people did hide themselves in caves, and in thickets, and in rocks, and in coverts, and in pits.Now some of the Hebrews had gone over the Jordan to the land of Gad and Gilead; but as for Saul, he was yet in Gilgal, and all the people followed him trembling.

But his father and his mother knew not that it was of Jehovah; for he sought an occasion against the Philistines. Now at that time the Philistines had rule over Israel.

Now there was no smith found throughout all the land of Israel; for the Philistines said, Lest the Hebrews make them swords or spears:but all the Israelites went down to the Philistines, to sharpen every man his share, and his coulter, and his axe, and his mattock;yet they had a file for the mattocks, and for the coulters, and for the forks, and for the axes, and to set the goads.So it came to pass in the day of battle, that there was neither sword nor spear found in the hand of any of the people that were with Saul and Jonathan: but with Saul and with Jonathan his son was there found.And the garrison of the Philistines went out unto the pass of Michmash.
