一個黑暗墨黑的日子，一個密雲暗霧的日子，像烏黑鋪滿着山嶺的是一團隊蝗蟲、又大又強盛；從來沒有這樣的，以後也不會再有，直到萬代萬年。牠們前面像火燒滅着，牠們過後像火燄燒過；未到以前、地像伊甸園，過去以後、地成了荒涼曠野；唉啊，沒有一樣能逃脫了牠們的。牠們的形狀像馬的形狀；駿馬怎樣跑，牠們也怎樣奔跑。

因為你忘了拯救你的上帝，你不懷念那做你逃難所的磐石；所以你雖栽上佳美可愛的樹栽子，種上異樣的樹種，你雖在栽的日子設法使它長大，在種的晨光培養它開花，但在憂患的日子、無法醫治的傷痛之時、所收割的都飛走了。

次日天剛亮、上帝卻安排了一條蟲子來咬這棵蓖麻樹，以致它枯槁了。
