You will go across the Jordan River. When you do, six tribes will stand on Mount Gerizim to bless the people. Those tribes are Simeon, Levi, Judah, Issachar, Joseph and Benjamin.

When Jotham was told about this, he climbed up on the top of Mount Gerizim and shouted to them,“ Listen to me, citizens of Shechem, so that God may listen to you.

She conceived again, and when she gave birth to a son she said,“ Because the Lord heard that I am not loved, he gave me this one too.” So she named him Simeon.Again she conceived, and when she gave birth to a son she said,“ Now at last my husband will become attached to me, because I have borne him three sons.” So he was named Levi.She conceived again, and when she gave birth to a son she said,“ This time I will praise the Lord.” So she named him Judah. Then she stopped having children.

All the Israelites, with their elders, officials and judges, were standing on both sides of the ark of the covenant of the Lord, facing the Levitical priests who carried it. Both the foreigners living among them and the native- born were there. Half of the people stood in front of Mount Gerizim and half of them in front of Mount Ebal, as Moses the servant of the Lord had formerly commanded when he gave instructions to bless the people of Israel.Afterward, Joshua read all the words of the law— the blessings and the curses— just as it is written in the Book of the Law.There was not a word of all that Moses had commanded that Joshua did not read to the whole assembly of Israel, including the women and children, and the foreigners who lived among them.

Then Leah said,“ God has rewarded me for giving my servant to my husband.” So she named him Issachar.

She named him Joseph, and said,“ May the Lord add to me another son.”

As she breathed her last— for she was dying— she named her son Ben-Oni. But his father named him Benjamin.

See, I am setting before you today a blessing and a curse—the blessing if you obey the commands of the Lord your God that I am giving you today;the curse if you disobey the commands of the Lord your God and turn from the way that I command you today by following other gods, which you have not known.When the Lord your God has brought you into the land you are entering to possess, you are to proclaim on Mount Gerizim the blessings, and on Mount Ebal the curses.
