耶穌也對那些倚靠自己為義、而藐視其他的人的、講這一個比喻。『有兩個人上殿裏去禱告，一個是法利賽人，另一個是收稅人。那法利賽人站着，用以下這些話禱告說：「上帝啊，我感謝你，我不像其他的人、勒索、不義、姦淫，或者竟像這個收稅人。我每安息週禁食兩次；凡所賺得的，我納上十分之一。」

倘若有人帶着金戒指、穿着華麗衣服、進你們的會堂來；又有窮人穿着垢污衣服、也進來。假使你們只顧那披着華麗衣服的，就說，『你請坐在這裏』；又對那窮人說：『你站着』，或是『坐在那裏、在我腳凳下邊』；

我被猶太人鞭打了五次，每次四十下減一下；被棍子打了三次，被人用石頭打了一次；遭船壞三次；一晝一夜在深海裏掙扎着；
