When people have a dispute, they are to take it to court and the judges will decide the case, acquitting the innocent and condemning the guilty.

Suppose two people don’t agree about something. Then they must take their case to court. The judges will decide the case. They will let the one who isn’t guilty go free. And they will punish the one who is guilty.

You shall not show partiality, and you shall not accept a bribe, for a bribe blinds the eyes of the wise and subverts the cause of the righteous.Justice, and only justice, you shall follow, that you may live and inherit the land that the Lord your God is giving you.

“ You shall not pervert the justice due to your poor in his lawsuit.Keep far from a false charge, and do not kill the innocent and righteous, for I will not acquit the wicked.

O house of David! Thus says the Lord:“‘ Execute justice in the morning, and deliver from the hand of the oppressor him who has been robbed, lest my wrath go forth like fire, and burn with none to quench it, because of your evil deeds.’”

You who are of purer eyes than to see evil and cannot look at wrong, why do you idly look at traitors and remain silent when the wicked swallows up the man more righteous than he?

who acquit the guilty for a bribe, and deprive the innocent of his right!

The God of Israel has spoken; the Rock of Israel has said to me: When one rules justly over men, ruling in the fear of God,

Do you indeed decree what is right, you gods? Do you judge the children of man uprightly?No, in your hearts you devise wrongs; your hands deal out violence on earth.

then both parties to the dispute shall appear before the Lord, before the priests and the judges who are in office in those days.The judges shall inquire diligently, and if the witness is a false witness and has accused his brother falsely,then you shall do to him as he had meant to do to his brother. So you shall purge the evil from your midst.

Your princes are rebels and companions of thieves. Everyone loves a bribe and runs after gifts. They do not bring justice to the fatherless, and the widow’s cause does not come to them.

Even now the axe is laid to the root of the trees. Every tree therefore that does not bear good fruit is cut down and thrown into the fire.

In a dispute, they shall act as judges, and they shall judge it according to my judgments. They shall keep my laws and my statutes in all my appointed feasts, and they shall keep my Sabbaths holy.

And I charged your judges at that time,‘ Hear the cases between your brothers, and judge righteously between a man and his brother or the alien who is with him.You shall not be partial in judgment. “ How long will you judge unjustly and show partiality to the wicked? SelahGive justice to the weak and the fatherless; maintain the right of the afflicted and the destitute.Rescue the weak and the needy; deliver them from the hand of the wicked.”

Behold, a king will reign in righteousness, and princes will rule in justice.Each will be like a hiding place from the wind, a shelter from the storm, like streams of water in a dry place, like the shade of a great rock in a weary land.

When I went out to the gate of the city, when I prepared my seat in the square,the young men saw me and withdrew, and the aged rose and stood;the princes refrained from talking and laid their hand on their mouth;the voice of the nobles was hushed, and their tongue stuck to the roof of their mouth.When the ear heard, it called me blessed, and when the eye saw, it approved,because I delivered the poor who cried for help, and the fatherless who had none to help him.The blessing of him who was about to perish came upon me, and I caused the widow’s heart to sing for joy.I put on righteousness, and it clothed me; my justice was like a robe and a turban.I was eyes to the blind and feet to the lame.I was a father to the needy, and I searched out the cause of him whom I did not know.I broke the fangs of the unrighteous and made him drop his prey from his teeth.

Then once more you shall see the distinction between the righteous and the wicked, between one who serves God and one who does not serve him.

Open your mouth for the mute, for the rights of all who are destitute.Open your mouth, judge righteously, defend the rights of the poor and needy.

So the law is paralyzed, and justice never goes forth. For the wicked surround the righteous; so justice goes forth perverted.

And I said: Hear, you heads of Jacob and rulers of the house of Israel! Is it not for you to know justice?—you who hate the good and love the evil, who tear the skin from off my people and their flesh from off their bones,
