Do not take advantage of a hired worker who is poor and needy, whether that worker is a fellow Israelite or a foreigner residing in one of your towns.

Don’t take advantage of any hired worker who is poor and needy. That applies to your own people. It also applies to outsiders living in one of your towns.

“ You shall not oppress a hired worker who is poor and needy, whether he is one of your brothers or one of the sojourners who are in your land within your towns.

“ Never take advantage of poor and destitute laborers, whether they are fellow Israelites or foreigners living in your towns.

“ Do not oppress a hired worker who is poor and needy, whether one of your Israelite brothers or one of the resident aliens in a town in your land.

“ You shall not exploit a hired worker who is poor and needy, whether he is one of your countrymen or one of your strangers who are in your land in your towns.

“ You shall not oppress a hired servant who is poor and needy, whether one of your brethren or one of the aliens who is in your land within your gates.

Thou shalt not oppress a hired servant that is poor and needy, whether he be of thy brethren, or of thy sojourners that are in thy land within thy gates:

He who oppresses the poor shows contempt for his Maker, but he who is kind to the needy honors him.

Whoever oppresses the poor for his own increase and whoever gives to the rich, both come to poverty.

Listen to this word, you cows of Bashan, who are on the mountain of Samaria, who oppress the poor, who crush the needy, who tell their husbands,“ Bring us drinks!”

They trample on the dust of the earth on the head of the poor, and deny justice to the oppressed; and a man and his father use the same maiden, to profane my holy name;

He shall live with you like an alien and a temporary resident.Take no interest from him or profit; but fear your God, that your brother may live among you.You shall not lend him your money at interest, nor give him your food for profit.I am Yahweh your God, who brought you out of the land of Egypt, to give you the land of Canaan, and to be your God.“‘ If your brother has grown poor among you, and sells himself to you, you shall not make him to serve as a slave.As a hired servant, and as a temporary resident, he shall be with you; he shall serve with you until the Year of Jubilee.Then he shall go out from you, he and his children with him, and shall return to his own family, and to the possession of his fathers.For they are my servants, whom I brought out of the land of Egypt. They shall not be sold as slaves.You shall not rule over him with harshness, but shall fear your God.

If your brother, a Hebrew man, or a Hebrew woman, is sold to you and serves you six years, then in the seventh year you shall let him go free from you.When you let him go free from you, you shall not let him go empty.You shall furnish him liberally out of your flock, out of your threshing floor, and out of your wine press. As Yahweh your God has blessed you, you shall give to him.You shall remember that you were a slave in the land of Egypt, and Yahweh your God redeemed you. Therefore I command you this thing today.It shall be, if he tells you,“ I will not go out from you,” because he loves you and your house, because he is well with you,then you shall take an awl, and thrust it through his ear to the door, and he shall be your servant forever. Also to your female servant you shall do likewise.It shall not seem hard to you when you let him go free from you; for he has been double the value of a hired hand as he served you six years. Yahweh your God will bless you in all that you do.

In you have they treated father and mother with contempt. Among you they have oppressed the foreigner. In you they have wronged the fatherless and the widow.

Hear this, you who desire to swallow up the needy, and cause the poor of the land to fail,

Remain in that same house, eating and drinking the things they give, for the laborer is worthy of his wages. Don’t go from house to house.
