Thou shalt not oppress an hired servant[ that is] poor and needy,[ whether he be] of thy brethren, or of thy strangers that[ are] in thy land within thy gates:

Do not take advantage of a hired worker who is poor and needy, whether that worker is a fellow Israelite or a foreigner residing in one of your towns.

Don’t take advantage of any hired worker who is poor and needy. That applies to your own people. It also applies to outsiders living in one of your towns.

“ You shall not oppress a hired worker who is poor and needy, whether he is one of your brothers or one of the sojourners who are in your land within your towns.

“ Never take advantage of poor and destitute laborers, whether they are fellow Israelites or foreigners living in your towns.

“ Do not oppress a hired worker who is poor and needy, whether one of your Israelite brothers or one of the resident aliens in a town in your land.

“ You shall not exploit a hired worker who is poor and needy, whether he is one of your countrymen or one of your strangers who are in your land in your towns.

“ You shall not oppress a hired servant who is poor and needy, whether one of your brethren or one of the aliens who is in your land within your gates.

Thou shalt not oppress a hired servant that is poor and needy, whether he be of thy brethren, or of thy sojourners that are in thy land within thy gates:

“ Do not oppress a hired hand who is poor and needy, whether one of your brothers or one of the foreigners residing within a town in your land.

You must not oppress a lowly and poor servant, whether one from among your fellow Israelites or from the resident foreigners who are living in your land and villages.

You shall not oppress a hired servant who is poor and needy, whether he is one of your brothers or one of the foreigners who are in your land within your gates.

And I will come near to you to judgment; and I will be a swift witness against the sorcerers, and against the adulterers, and against false swearers, and against those that oppress the hireling in[ his] wages, the widow, and the fatherless, and that turn aside the stranger[ from his right], and fear not me, saith the LORD of hosts.

He that oppresseth the poor reproacheth his Maker: but he that honoureth him hath mercy on the poor.

He that oppresseth the poor to increase his[ riches, and] he that giveth to the rich,[ shall] surely[ come] to want.

Hear this word, ye kine of Bashan, that[ are] in the mountain of Samaria, which oppress the poor, which crush the needy, which say to their masters, Bring, and let us drink.

That pant after the dust of the earth on the head of the poor, and turn aside the way of the meek: and a man and his father will go in unto the[ same] maid, to profane my holy name:

If I did despise the cause of my manservant or of my maidservant, when they contended with me;What then shall I do when God riseth up? and when he visiteth, what shall I answer him?Did not he that made me in the womb make him? and did not one fashion us in the womb?

They cause[ him] to go naked without clothing, and they take away the sheaf[ from] the hungry;[ Which] make oil within their walls,[ and] tread[ their] winepresses, and suffer thirst.

And if thy brother be waxen poor, and fallen in decay with thee; then thou shalt relieve him:[ yea, though he be] a stranger, or a sojourner; that he may live with thee.Take thou no usury of him, or increase: but fear thy God; that thy brother may live with thee.Thou shalt not give him thy money upon usury, nor lend him thy victuals for increase.I[ am] the LORD your God, which brought you forth out of the land of Egypt, to give you the land of Canaan,[ and] to be your God.And if thy brother[ that dwelleth] by thee be waxen poor, and be sold unto thee; thou shalt not compel him to serve as a bondservant:[ But] as an hired servant,[ and] as a sojourner, he shall be with thee,[ and] shall serve thee unto the year of jubile:And[ then] shall he depart from thee,[ both] he and his children with him, and shall return unto his own family, and unto the possession of his fathers shall he return.For they[ are] my servants, which I brought forth out of the land of Egypt: they shall not be sold as bondmen.Thou shalt not rule over him with rigour; but shalt fear thy God.

[ And] if thy brother, an Hebrew man, or an Hebrew woman, be sold unto thee, and serve thee six years; then in the seventh year thou shalt let him go free from thee.And when thou sendest him out free from thee, thou shalt not let him go away empty:Thou shalt furnish him liberally out of thy flock, and out of thy floor, and out of thy winepress:[ of that] wherewith the LORD thy God hath blessed thee thou shalt give unto him.And thou shalt remember that thou wast a bondman in the land of Egypt, and the LORD thy God redeemed thee: therefore I command thee this thing to day.And it shall be, if he say unto thee, I will not go away from thee; because he loveth thee and thine house, because he is well with thee;Then thou shalt take an aul, and thrust[ it] through his ear unto the door, and he shall be thy servant for ever. And also unto thy maidservant thou shalt do likewise.It shall not seem hard unto thee, when thou sendest him away free from thee; for he hath been worth a double hired servant[ to thee], in serving thee six years: and the LORD thy God shall bless thee in all that thou doest.

In thee have they set light by father and mother: in the midst of thee have they dealt by oppression with the stranger: in thee have they vexed the fatherless and the widow.

Hear this, O ye that swallow up the needy, even to make the poor of the land to fail,

And in the same house remain, eating and drinking such things as they give: for the labourer is worthy of his hire. Go not from house to house.
