Do not despise an Edomite, for the Edomites are related to you. Do not despise an Egyptian, because you resided as foreigners in their country.

Don’t hate the people of Edom. They are your relatives. Don’t hate the people of Egypt. After all, you lived as outsiders in their country.

“ Do not detest the Edomites or the Egyptians, because the Edomites are your relatives and you lived as foreigners among the Egyptians.

Thou shalt not abhor an Edomite; for he is thy brother: thou shalt not abhor an Egyptian; because thou wast a sojourner in his land.

The foreigner who resides with you must be to you like a native citizen among you; so you must love him as yourself, because you were foreigners in the land of Egypt. I am the LORD your God.

“ You must not oppress a foreigner, since you know the life of a foreigner, for you were foreigners in the land of Egypt.

Joseph also provided food for his father, his brothers, and all his father’s household, according to the number of their little children.

He brought with him to Egypt his sons and grandsons, his daughters and granddaughters– all his descendants.

“ Because you violently slaughtered your relatives, the people of Jacob, shame will cover you, and you will be destroyed forever.You stood aloof while strangers took his army captive, and foreigners advanced to his gates. When they cast lots over Jerusalem, you behaved as though you were in league with them.You should not have gloated when your relatives suffered calamity. You should not have rejoiced over the people of Judah when they were destroyed. You should not have boasted when they suffered adversity.

“ I have shown love to you,” says the LORD, but you say,“ How have you shown love to us?”“ Esau was Jacob’s brother,” the LORD explains,“ yet I chose Jacob

So Esau said to Jacob,“ Feed me some of the red stuff– yes, this red stuff– because I’m starving!”( That is why he was also called Edom.)

Israel moved to Egypt; Jacob lived for a time in the land of Ham.

The land of Egypt is before you; settle your father and your brothers in the best region of the land. They may live in the land of Goshen. If you know of any highly capable men among them, put them in charge of my livestock.”

Pharaoh said to Joseph,“ Say to your brothers,‘ Do this: Load your animals and go to the land of Canaan!Get your father and your households and come to me! Then I will give you the best land in Egypt and you will eat the best of the land.’
