「你們聘了妻子，別人必佔有她；你們蓋了房屋，必不能住在裡面；你們栽種葡萄園，必吃不到園中的出產。

以下是耶穌基督降生的經過。耶穌的母親瑪麗亞和約瑟訂了婚，還沒有成親就從聖靈懷了孕。

「如果有人在城中遇見已經訂婚的女子，與她行淫，你們必須把二人帶到城門口，用石頭打死他們。那女子該死，因為她在城中卻沒有高聲呼救；那男子該死，因為他姦污了別人的妻子。你們必須除去你們中間的罪惡。「如果有人在野外遇見已經訂婚的女子，強姦了她，必須處死那男子。

可是，他們都找藉口推辭。頭一個說，『我剛買了一塊田，必須去看一看，請恕我不能參加。』另一個說，『我新買了五對牛，要去試一試，請恕我不能參加。』還有一個說，『我剛結了婚，所以不能去。』

當兵的若讓其他事務纏身，就不能取悅徵召他的上司。
