爾環城而攻、為日已久、欲取其地、勿以斧砍樹、夫樹結果、足以養人、毋得砍伐、以製攻城之器、

爾欲取城、圍而攻之、為日已久、毋以斧伐樹、因爾食其果、不可伐之、田之樹豈亦為爾所攻乎、或作爾所欲取之城環而攻之為日已久毋以斧伐樹因田間之樹結果養人者爾可食不可砍伐以製攻城之具

When you lay siege to a city for a long time, fighting against it to capture it, do not destroy its trees by putting an ax to them, because you can eat their fruit. Do not cut them down. Are the trees people, that you should besiege them?

Suppose you surround a city and get ready to attack it. And suppose you fight against it for a long time in order to capture it. Then don’t chop down its trees and destroy them. You can eat their fruit. So don’t cut them down. Are the trees people? So why should you attack them?

This brings great glory to my Father.

and he noticed a fig tree beside the road. He went over to see if there were any figs, but there were only leaves. Then he said to it,“ May you never bear fruit again!” And immediately the fig tree withered up.

Finally, he said to his gardener,‘ I’ve waited three years, and there hasn’t been a single fig! Cut it down. It’s just taking up space in the garden.’“ The gardener answered,‘ Sir, give it one more chance. Leave it another year, and I’ll give it special attention and plenty of fertilizer.If we get figs next year, fine. If not, then you can cut it down.’”

“ Beware of false prophets who come disguised as harmless sheep but are really vicious wolves.You can identify them by their fruit, that is, by the way they act. Can you pick grapes from thornbushes, or figs from thistles?A good tree produces good fruit, and a bad tree produces bad fruit.A good tree can’t produce bad fruit, and a bad tree can’t produce good fruit.So every tree that does not produce good fruit is chopped down and thrown into the fire.Yes, just as you can identify a tree by its fruit, so you can identify people by their actions.
