If they accept and open their gates, all the people in it shall be subject to forced labor and shall work for you.

Suppose they accept your offer and open their gates. Then force all the people in the city to be your slaves. They will have to work for you.

And if it responds to you peaceably and it opens to you, then all the people who are found in it shall do forced labor for you and shall serve you.

If they accept your terms and open the gates to you, then all the people inside will serve you in forced labor.

If it accepts your offer of peace and opens its gates to you, all the people found in it will become forced laborers for you and serve you.

And if it agrees to make peace with you and opens to you, then all the people who are found in it shall become your forced labor and serve you.

And it shall be that if they accept your offer of peace, and open to you, then all the people who are found in it shall be placed under tribute to you, and serve you.

And it shall be, if it make thee answer of peace, and open unto thee, then it shall be, that all the people that are found therein shall become tributary unto thee, and shall serve thee.

If it accepts your offer of peace and opens its gates to you, all the people found in it will become forced laborers for you and serve you.

And it shall be, if it make thee answer of peace, and open unto thee, then it shall be,[ that] all the people[ that is] found therein shall be tributaries unto thee, and they shall serve thee.

約書亞把他們召了來，質問他們：“你們為甚麼欺騙我們說：‘我們離你們很遠’，其實你們卻是住在這地的？現在你們要受到咒詛，你們中間必不斷有人作奴僕，為我神的聖所作劈柴打水的人。”

西布倫沒有把基倫的居民和拿哈拉的居民趕走；於是迦南人還住在西布倫中間，成了作苦工的人。亞設沒有把亞柯的居民和西頓的居民趕走，也沒有把亞黑拉、亞革悉、黑巴、亞弗革和利合的居民趕走。於是亞設人住在當地的居民迦南人中間，因為他們沒有把他們趕走。拿弗他利沒有把伯．示麥的居民和伯．亞納的居民趕走；於是他們就住在當地的居民迦南人中間；伯．示麥和伯．亞納的居民成了給他們作苦工的人。亞摩利人強迫但人退回山地上，不容他們下到平原來。亞摩利人決意住在希烈山、亞雅崙和沙賓；但約瑟家的勢力強大以後，他們就成了作苦工的人。

到以色列強盛了，就迫使迦南人作苦工，但沒有把他們完全趕走。

他們的子孫仍然留在那地，以色列人不能滅絕他們。於是所羅門徵召他們作苦工的奴僕，直到今日。至於以色列人，所羅門卻沒有使他們作奴僕，而是作他的戰士、臣僕、統領、軍長、戰車長和騎兵長。

因為他們是我的僕人，是我從埃及地領出來的，他們不可以賣作奴僕。你不可嚴嚴地轄制他，卻要敬畏你的神。至於你需要的僕婢，可以來自你們四圍的列國，你們可以從他們中間購買奴婢。你們也可以從那些與你們住在一起的外人的兒女中，或是從他們的家族中，就是那些與你們在一起，在你們境內所生的，購買奴婢；他們要作你們的產業。你們要把他們留給你們的子孫作永遠的產業，你們要從他們中間取奴僕；只是你們的兄弟以色列人，你們卻不可苛刻管轄。

我希望有和平，但我一說話，他們就要爭戰。

除了住在基遍的希未人以外，沒有一座城與以色列人議和的；所有其他的城都是以色列人作戰奪取的。因為這是出於耶和華的旨意，他使他們心裡剛硬，要與以色列人交戰，好把他們完全毀滅，使他們不蒙憐憫，卻要被消滅，正如耶和華吩咐摩西的。

他本國的人卻恨他，就派使者跟著去說：‘我們不願意這個人作王統治我們。’

在那一天，約書亞指派他們在耶和華選擇的地方，為會眾和耶和華的祭壇作劈柴打水的人，直到今日。

可是他們沒有把住在基色的迦南人趕走，於是迦南人住在以法蓮中間，直到今日，成了作苦工的奴僕。
