Give these orders to the people:“ You will pass through the country belonging to your relatives the Edomites, the descendants of Esau, who live in Seir. The Edomites will feel threatened, so be careful.

From Kadesh Moses then sent messengers to the king of Edom to say,“ This is what your brother Israel has said:‘ You know all the hardship that has overtaken us;that our fathers went down to Egypt, and we stayed in Egypt a long time, and the Egyptians treated us and our fathers badly.But when we cried out to the Lord, He heard our voice and sent an angel, and brought us out from Egypt; now behold, we are at Kadesh, a town on the edge of your territory.Please let us pass through your land. We will not pass through field or vineyard; we will not even drink water from a well. We will go along the king’s road, not turning to the right or left, until we pass through your territory.’ ”Edom, however, said to him,“ You shall not pass through us, or I will come out with the sword against you.”Again, the sons of Israel said to him,“ We will go up by the road, and if I and my livestock do drink any of your water, then I will pay its price. Let me only pass through on my feet, nothing more.”But he said,“ You shall not pass through.” And Edom came out against him with a heavy force and a strong hand.So Edom refused to allow Israel to pass through his territory; then Israel turned away from him.

Then the chiefs of Edom were terrified; The leaders of Moab, trembling grips them; All the inhabitants of Canaan have despaired.

“ You shall not loathe an Edomite, for he is your brother; you shall not loathe an Egyptian, because you were a stranger in his land.

so that you will prove yourselves to be blameless and innocent, children of God above reproach in the midst of a crooked and perverse generation, among whom you appear as lights in the world,

So Moab was in great fear because of the people, for they were numerous; and Moab was in dread of the sons of Israel.Moab said to the elders of Midian,“ Now this horde will eat up all that is around us, as the ox eats up the grass of the field!” And Balak the son of Zippor was king of Moab at that time.

Your light must shine before people in such a way that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father who is in heaven.

But He said to them,“ Beware, and be on your guard against every form of greed; for not even when one is affluent does his life consist of his possessions.”

“ Because of violence to your brother Jacob, Shame will cover you, And you will be eliminated forever.On the day that you stood aloof, On the day that strangers carried off his wealth, And foreigners entered his gate And cast lots for Jerusalem— You too were as one of them.Do not gloat over your brother’s day, The day of his misfortune. And do not rejoice over the sons of Judah On the day of their destruction; Yes, do not boast On the day of their distress.Do not enter the gate of My people On the day of their disaster. You indeed, do not gloat over their catastrophe On the day of their disaster. And do not lay a hand on their wealth On the day of their disaster.

So now, behold, I am going to my people; come, and I will advise you of what this people will do to your people in the days to come.”Then he took up his discourse and said,“ The declaration of Balaam the son of Beor, And the declaration of the man whose eye is opened,The declaration of him who hears the words of God, And knows the knowledge of the Most High, Who sees the vision of the Almighty, Falling down, yet having his eyes uncovered:I see him, but not now; I look at him, but not near; A star shall appear from Jacob, A scepter shall rise from Israel, And shall smash the forehead of Moab, And overcome all the sons of Sheth.And Edom shall be a possession, Seir, its enemies, also will be a possession, While Israel performs valiantly.

Conduct yourselves with wisdom toward outsiders, making the most of the opportunity.

So then, be careful how you walk, not as unwise people but as wise,
