Give the people these orders:‘ You are about to pass through the territory of your relatives the descendants of Esau, who live in Seir. They will be afraid of you, but be very careful.

Here are the orders I want you to give the people. Tell them,‘ You are about to pass through the territory of your relatives. They are from the family line of Esau. They live in Seir. They will be afraid of you. But be very careful.

and command the people,“ You are about to pass through the territory of your brothers, the people of Esau, who live in Seir; and they will be afraid of you. So be very careful.

Give these orders to the people:“ You will pass through the country belonging to your relatives the Edomites, the descendants of Esau, who live in Seir. The Edomites will feel threatened, so be careful.

Command the people: You are about to travel through the territory of your brothers, the descendants of Esau, who live in Seir. They will be afraid of you, so be very careful.

And command thou the people, saying, Ye[ are] to pass through the coast of your brethren the children of Esau, which dwell in Seir; and they shall be afraid of you: take ye good heed unto yourselves therefore:

Instruct these people as follows:‘ You are about to cross the border of your relatives the descendants of Esau, who inhabit Seir. They will be afraid of you, so watch yourselves carefully.

摩西從加低斯派使者去見以東王說：“你的兄弟以色列這樣說：你知道我們遭遇的一切困難，就是我們的列祖下到埃及去，我們在埃及住了很多日子；埃及人惡待我們和我們的列祖；我們向耶和華呼求，他就聽了我們的聲音，派使者把我們從埃及領出來；現在我們就在你邊界上的城加低斯。求你容我們從你的地經過；我們不走過田地和葡萄園，也不喝井裡的水，我們只走大路，不偏左也不偏右，直到走過了你的境地。”以東王對使者說：“你不可從我這裡經過，免得我帶著刀出來攻擊你。”以色列人對他說：“我們要走大路上去，我們和牲畜若是喝了你的水，我必照價付你；不求別的事，只求你容我們步行經過。”以東王說：“你不可經過。”他就率領很多人出來，要用強硬的手攻擊以色列人。這樣，以東王不肯讓以色列人從他的境內經過，以色列人就離開他去了。

那時，以東的族長驚惶，摩押的英雄被戰兢抓住，所有迦南的居民都膽戰心寒。

“你不可厭惡以東人，因為他是你的兄弟；不可厭惡埃及人，因為你在他的地上作過寄居的。

好使你們無可指摘、純真無邪，在這彎曲乖謬的世代中，作神沒有瑕疵的兒女；你們要在這世代中發光，好像天上的光體一樣，

摩押人十分懼怕這民，因為他們眾多；摩押人因以色列人的緣故，十分恐慌。摩押人對米甸的長老說：“現在這群人要吞併我們四周的一切，好像牛吞吃田間的草一樣。”那時西撥的兒子巴勒，作摩押王；

照樣，你們的光也應當照在人前，讓他們看見你們的好行為，又頌讚你們在天上的父。

於是他對眾人說：“你們要謹慎，遠離一切貪心，因為人的生命並不在於家道豐富。”

因你對兄弟雅各行強暴，你必受羞辱，永被剪除。外地人劫掠雅各財物的日子，外族人進入他的城門，為耶路撒冷抽籤；那時你竟袖手旁觀，甚至好像他們中間的一分子！你兄弟遭遇禍患的日子，你不該看著不理；猶大人被滅的日子，你不該幸災樂禍；他們遭難的日子，你不該張口狂傲；我子民遭災的日子，你不該進入他們的城門；他們遭災的日子，你不該看著他們受苦；他們遭災的日子，你不該搶奪他們的財物。

現在我要回我本族去了；你來，我要告訴你這個民族日後要怎樣待你的人民。”他就作歌，說：“比珥的兒子巴蘭說：‘開著眼的人說，那得聽神的話語、明白至高者的知識、得見全能者的異象、身體仆倒而眼目睜開的人說：我看見他，卻不是現在；我望見他，卻不是近處；必有一星從雅各而出，必有一杖從以色列興起；他必打碎摩押的額角，粉碎一切舍特人的頭頂。他必得以東作產業，又得仇敵之地西珥作產業；只有以色列人成為強壯。

你們要把握時機，用智慧與外人來往。

所以，你們行事為人要謹慎，不要像愚昧人，卻要像聰明人。
