Give the people these orders:‘ You are about to pass through the territory of your relatives the descendants of Esau, who live in Seir. They will be afraid of you, but be very careful.

Here are the orders I want you to give the people. Tell them,‘ You are about to pass through the territory of your relatives. They are from the family line of Esau. They live in Seir. They will be afraid of you. But be very careful.

and command the people,“ You are about to pass through the territory of your brothers, the people of Esau, who live in Seir; and they will be afraid of you. So be very careful.

Give these orders to the people:“ You will pass through the country belonging to your relatives the Edomites, the descendants of Esau, who live in Seir. The Edomites will feel threatened, so be careful.

Command the people: You are about to travel through the territory of your brothers, the descendants of Esau, who live in Seir. They will be afraid of you, so be very careful.

And command thou the people, saying, Ye[ are] to pass through the coast of your brethren the children of Esau, which dwell in Seir; and they shall be afraid of you: take ye good heed unto yourselves therefore:

Instruct these people as follows:‘ You are about to cross the border of your relatives the descendants of Esau, who inhabit Seir. They will be afraid of you, so watch yourselves carefully.

摩西從加低斯派使者去見以東王，說：「你的弟兄以色列人說，你知道我們遭遇的種種困難。我們祖先到埃及寄居多年，我們世代受埃及人虐待。但我們呼求耶和華，祂就垂聽了我們的聲音，差遣天使把我們領出埃及。現在我們來到你邊境的加低斯城，求你容我們借道貴國。我們不會踏入田地和葡萄園，也不會喝井裡的水，只走大路，不會偏離，直到走出貴國。」以東王卻說：「你們不可從我這裡經過，否則我必兵戎相見。」以色列人說：「我們只走大路，倘若我們和牲畜喝了你的水，我們會付錢。我們別無他求，只求步行穿過貴國。」但以東王仍然不准，還率領大軍嚴陣以待。由於無法從以東穿過，以色列人只好繞道。

以東的族長惶恐，摩押的英雄顫慄，迦南的居民都膽戰心驚。

「不可憎惡以東人，因為他們是你們的弟兄；也不可憎惡埃及人，因為你們曾經在埃及寄居。

好使你們在這個彎曲敗壞的時代中無可指責、誠實無偽，作上帝純潔無瑕的兒女，如同明光照耀在世上，

又見他們人多勢眾，都驚恐萬狀，對米甸的長老說：「這群人將吞掉我們周圍的一切，如同牛吃光田間的草一樣。」那時，西撥的兒子巴勒做摩押王。

同樣，你們的光也應當照在人面前，好讓他們看見你們的好行為，便讚美你們天上的父。

接著，祂對眾人說：「你們要小心防範一切的貪心，因為人的生命並不在於家道富足。」

「因你曾殘暴地對待同胞兄弟雅各，你必蒙羞，永遭毀滅。外族人掠奪雅各的財物，攻入耶路撒冷抽籤分贓時，你竟然袖手旁觀，就像他們的同夥一樣。你的親族遭難之日，你不該幸災樂禍；猶大人被滅的日子，你不該興高采烈；他們遭難的日子，你不該口出狂言；我子民遭難的日子，你不該闖進他們的城；他們遭難的日子，你不該幸災樂禍；他們遭難的日子，你不該趁火打劫；

現在我要回本族去了。但我要告訴你日後以色列人會怎樣對待你的人民。」巴蘭用詩歌預言說：「比珥之子巴蘭的預言，是眼睛明亮者的話，他得聽上帝之言，明白至高者的旨意，俯伏在地，得見全能者的異象。我所見的尚未發生，我目睹的關乎將來。一顆星要從雅各家升起，一位君王要從以色列興起。他要打爛摩押的前額，擊碎舍特人的頭顱。他必征服以東，佔領敵疆西珥，以色列必勇往直前。

你們要把握時機，運用智慧和非信徒交往。

因此，你們要注意自己的生活，不要像愚昧人，要像有智慧的人。
