Thirty-eight years passed from the time we left Kadesh Barnea until we crossed the Zered Valley. By then, that entire generation of fighting men had perished from the camp, as the Lord had sworn to them.

Between the time we left Kadesh Barnea and the time we went across the Zered Valley, 38 years had passed. By then, all the fighting men who had been in our camp from the beginning had died. The Lord had warned them that it would happen.

And the time from our leaving Kadesh-barnea until we crossed the brook Zered was thirty-eight years, until the entire generation, that is, the men of war, had perished from the camp, as the Lord had sworn to them.

“ Thirty eight years passed from the time we first left Kadesh barnea until we finally crossed the Zered Brook! By then, all the men old enough to fight in battle had died in the wilderness, as the Lord had vowed would happen.

The time we spent traveling from Kadesh-barnea until we crossed the Zered Valley was thirty-eight years until the entire generation of fighting men had perished from the camp, as the LORD had sworn to them.

Now the time that it took for us to come from Kadesh barnea until we crossed over the Wadi Zered was thirty eight years, until all the generation of the men of war perished from within the camp, just as the Lord had sworn to them.

And the time we took to come from Kadesh Barnea until we crossed over the Valley of the Zered was thirty-eight years, until all the generation of the men of war was consumed from the midst of the camp, just as the Lord had sworn to them.

And the days in which we came from Kadesh- barnea, until we were come over the brook Zered, were thirty and eight years; until all the generation of the men of war were consumed from the midst of the camp, as Jehovah sware unto them.

Now the length of time it took for us to go from Kadesh Barnea to the crossing of Wadi Zered was thirty-eight years, time for all the military men of that generation to die, just as the LORD had vowed to them.

Yahweh heard the voice of your words and was angry, and swore, saying,“ Surely not one of these men of this evil generation shall see the good land which I swore to give to your fathers,

Moreover also I swore to them in the wilderness, that I would not bring them into the land which I had given them, flowing with milk and honey, which is the glory of all lands;

Therefore I swore in my wrath,“ They won’t enter into my rest.”

But among these there was not a man of them who were counted by Moses and Aaron the priest, who counted the children of Israel in the wilderness of Sinai.For Yahweh had said of them,“ They shall surely die in the wilderness.” There was not a man left of them, except Caleb the son of Jephunneh, and Joshua the son of Nun.

They went and came to Moses, to Aaron, and to all the congregation of the children of Israel, to the wilderness of Paran, to Kadesh; and brought back word to them and to all the congregation. They showed them the fruit of the land.

It is eleven days’ journey from Horeb by the way of Mount Seir to Kadesh Barnea.

We traveled from Horeb and went through all that great and terrible wilderness which you saw, by the way to the hill country of the Amorites, as Yahweh our God commanded us; and we came to Kadesh Barnea.

Tell them,‘ As I live, says Yahweh, surely as you have spoken in my ears, so I will do to you.Your dead bodies shall fall in this wilderness; and all who were counted of you, according to your whole number, from twenty years old and upward, who have complained against me,surely you shall not come into the land concerning which I swore that I would make you dwell therein, except Caleb the son of Jephunneh, and Joshua the son of Nun.But I will bring your little ones that you said should be captured or killed in, and they shall know the land which you have rejected.But as for you, your dead bodies shall fall in this wilderness.Your children shall be wanderers in the wilderness forty years, and shall bear your prostitution, until your dead bodies are consumed in the wilderness.After the number of the days in which you spied out the land, even forty days, for every day a year, you will bear your iniquities, even forty years, and you will know my alienation.’I, Yahweh, have spoken. I will surely do this to all this evil congregation who are gathered together against me. In this wilderness they shall be consumed, and there they shall die.”

However with most of them, God was not well pleased, for they were overthrown in the wilderness.

For all our days have passed away in your wrath. We bring our years to an end as a sigh.

So you stayed in Kadesh many days, according to the days that you remained.

You turn man to destruction, saying,“ Return, you children of men.”

don’t harden your hearts, as in the rebellion, like as in the day of the trial in the wilderness,where your fathers tested me and tried me, and saw my deeds for forty years.Therefore I was displeased with that generation, and said,‘ They always err in their heart, but they didn’t know my ways.’As I swore in my wrath,‘ They will not enter into my rest.’”Beware, brothers, lest perhaps there might be in any one of you an evil heart of unbelief, in falling away from the living God;but exhort one another day by day, so long as it is called“ today”, lest any one of you be hardened by the deceitfulness of sin.For we have become partakers of Christ, if we hold the beginning of our confidence firm to the end,while it is said,“ Today if you will hear his voice, don’t harden your hearts, as in the rebellion.”For who, when they heard, rebelled? Wasn’t it all those who came out of Egypt led by Moses?With whom was he displeased forty years? Wasn’t it with those who sinned, whose bodies fell in the wilderness?To whom did he swear that they wouldn’t enter into his rest, but to those who were disobedient?We see that they weren’t able to enter in because of unbelief.

Now I desire to remind you, though you already know this, that the Lord, having saved a people out of the land of Egypt, afterward destroyed those who didn’t believe.

Therefore he swore to them that he would overthrow them in the wilderness,

‘ Surely none of the men who came up out of Egypt, from twenty years old and upward, shall see the land which I swore to Abraham, to Isaac, and to Jacob; because they have not wholly followed me,
